I'm not excited tbh. I don't really like anything they did after Rated R.
Yes! I am really excited, downloading the track now.
The album comes out in July right?

Can't wait for this. Lullabies was a real grower. It's probably my second favourite Queens album now.

This song is really dumb.
haha, I was thinking the same thing.
At first I thought it was nothing special, but it has grown on me. I like the sound of this, and obviously it wasn't going to be amazing, if it was cut from the album. Great for Queen's to give us a taste of what is to come, though.
I can't wait to hear the song featuring Mark Lanegan, on Era Vulgaris.
niobium
04-15-2007, 10:40 PM
Mark makes anything QOTSA writes better, instantly. Too bad it's only one track.
I'm sure he had some sway in the other songs, which is great.
Good to see the album is only going to be 11 songs, something that hasn't been done since Rated R.

Agreed. That's the worst part about the album. If it wasn't for that it might have been my favorite QOTSA album.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still rate the album about a 3.5-4/5, but to me it's just not as strong as SftD or LtP. I haven't heard the first album.
So I downloaded Desert Sessions vol. 5 & 6. Not too sure what to expect. What's the good word?
I think that is the gem of the Desert Session recordings. All the others are also awesome though, don't get me wrong. But you just can't go wrong, when you have Millionaire, I'm Dead, A#1, Like a Drug and Rickshaw, along with all the others.

It's a lot better than the Trent Reznor collaboration, I'll tell you that much. I'll have to listen to it a lot more, it didn't really sink in. QOTSA songs are typically songs I can rediscover and whatnot, find things I missed the first 20 times.

Yes, that's right. I remember digging certain stages of Lullabies straight up, and then a few weeks later getting in to the rest of it.

I get it now; you're one of the Nick fan boys. Normally people say bad things because they think Queens did evolve between SFTD and Lullabies, but I have never heard anyone say they didn't evolve and just burnt out.
Sick Sick Sick is so typical of Queens, it's hard and fast and a great riff. I thought 3's and 7's would please some of the Lullabies haters actually, but not so in this case.
The new bass player Michael actually has the same kind of aura as Nick, you should check him out.
The live DVD just plain rocks though, I have to disagree wholeheartedly with you there. That was a tight set, when they were in a tight tour.

You know the typical great Queens song takes more than one listen to begin to hit home.
I appreciate the songs more, I assume, because as they were leaked or whatnot, I got to listen to most of them one by one, over and over. Now when they are all put together, they all make sense and create an amazing album.

What is wrong with leaks? Only have to wait a few days (one more if you live in Australia :D) for the release.
Don't listen to the haters, they wouldn't be happy with anything that Queens released. They don't seem to realise the band has evolved and changed styles since Songs for the Deaf.

There's a few too many long, sprawing, distorted sections with Josh's slurring vocals over the top and that bogs the album down a bit.
But they make up for that with some innovative riffs and twiddly bits.
And the drumming is very good on the whole.
On giving this thing another shot, I'm really digging it.

What is wrong with leaks? I'm getting a little better about it now, but I never seemed to like the fact that everyone ignores the release date. It just seemed really dishonest, like I could wait for the release date no problem.
Now I don't like them because of the subpar quality. For example, the new Pelican album. All the people who downloaded it four months before release date couldn't have possibly thought they were getting the highest quality release? Pelican even said that they should buy it, and the people who got the leaked version had a crappy one.
Don't listen to the haters, they wouldn't be happy with anything that Queens released. They don't seem to realise the band has evolved and changed styles since Songs for the Deaf. Thanks for that info. Sometimes I forget that, I was going to go into the first listen with less than favorable expectations.
Got my copy of the album in my hands. The booklet inside is pretty funny. Can't wait for my vinyls to get here!

Songs for the Deaf is probably the most public friendly, I'd say. Although all of the albums have 'pop' songs. I'd say start anyway but the first self titled, and you'd be fine.

well, queens of the stone age and rage against the machine are playing a show in my own state in august. tickets are like idk conversion rate, so $59. pricey, but it's a really good opportunity. i hope qotsa does a late night show or two.
also, goon moon - licker's last leg is pretty decent stuff
I am enjoying the new Goon Moon album too. Also the new UNKLE effort is pretty rad.
Crazy live song from the Rollins show:

everyone is beautiful and brilliant and sexy. especially the live bassist in the first minute, i was getting into him and his vocals. i like joey's style too, every live qotsa vid i've seen, he's stellar.
very good song. i almost wish it had stayed instrumental though.

it is
i just don't feel it, and that was the whole point of the album
They didn't do a lot of the cool harmonies that they did on prior albums.

Still undecided on Era. I like Screw, Sick, Misfit Love, Make It Wit Chu, 3 & 7's, Suture, River, and Running Joke. The rest suck
and can anyone give me a list of bands similar to Queens or bands fans would enjoy?

That's true.

How many times have you listened to it? Like all the other Queens albums, different songs appeal to people at different times. At the moment I'm digging the harder songs of the album.
Search around on lastfm or similar sites, but I would recommend any one of the following:
Desert Sessions, for a free form version of the Queens
Brant Bjork, for some some laid back relaxed tunes
Kyuss, for the band with Josh in his teens
Fatso Jetson, for some weird funky music
Fu Manchu, for some hard straight out rock music
Hermano, for a fast, hard ride, featuring the singer from Kyuss
Mark Lanegan, personal favourite, for some Tom Waits styles songs
Millionaire, for some Queens riff music
etc. etc.

I didn't entirely get what you said, but Make It Wit Chu is a awesome song, which now gets its much deserved media and fan attention.

i wanna make it wit chu was also on over the years and through the woods. it was a very safe song. unless they changed it a little for era vulgaris
So you haven't listened to Era Vulgaris or Desert Sessions Volume 9+10? I think it is one of the best songs Homme has ever written or been involved in. Perfect.

I agree. Probably one of the sexiest songs ever.

So you have listened to the first four songs once, and don't feel them. Well of course you don't. You should know Queens better by now; you won't 'get' and 'like' every song on first listen. That is the beauty of the band.

It's not vary good. But good news is that they have recorded an EP, to be like a companion release for Era Vulgaris.

I'm annoyed at the fact that tickets for their Glasgow show sold out in an hour and I never got one. Doesn't matter though, Era Vulgaris wasn't that good anyway.
