View Full Version : Fawlty Towers
Was watching the boxset yesterday. Was really ill but after watching a few episodes felt right as rain.
Discuss
1) How it is by far the funniest comedy of all time, ever. Bar none.
2) How it retains its funniness. I was brought up on it, must have seen every episode maybe 20+ times, Dad seriously reckons he's seen each episode in the hundreds. But every line is still tear-jerkingly hilarious.
3) Is it just me or does anyone else think that Connie Booth (Polly) is a FOX. seriously. Maybe its just one of those weird Jon things :upset:

No, you're not alone, Polly is/was fine. Obviously, The Germans is the 'classic' episode, but my fave will always be 'The Kipper And The Corpse'.
"Basil...there's a kipper sticking out of your jumper..."

1) concur. The constant rewrites paid off.
2) ditto
My favourite episode has to be The Kipper and the Corpse. It had so many great moments, plus the best bit of Manuel-abuse in the series.

oh hell yes! i knew i couldn't be the only one.

The best confrontation of the lot was between the near-deaf Mrs. Richards and Manuel, he of pidgin English:
"Now, I've reserved a very quiet room, with a bath and a sea view. I specifically asked for a sea view in my written application, so please make sure I have one."
"........que?"
"What?"
"Que?"
"K?"
"Si!"
"C? KC? KC? What are you trying to say?"
"No, no no no no, no...que, what!"
"...K, What?"
"Si!...que, what!"
"C. K. What?"
"Yes!"
"Who is C. K. What?"
"...que?"

It's often said that the series was finished right at its peak, but, I dunno, I would have liked maybe six more episodes. If they suffered as a result, it wouldn't have mattered much; they still would have been great, I think
"...would you care for a rat, or..."

In that one episode when the moose head falls down and knocks out John Cleese...that is the funniest thing I have ever seen.
