View Full Version : The Pop-Punk Forum Suggestions Thread

I'm pretty sure you all have found that these forums have been very slow as of late. Not much really goes on here except a post or two in a band thread saying "This band rules!" and then it dies, just like every other band thread. Then everyone goes to the Community Thread, which is about the only thing keeping the forums alive, which is sad seeing as every single forum has a Community Thread. :-\
Basically, it is getting to the point where there is nothing new, nothing to really look forward to. There's no point really in making band threads due to the Official Recommendation thread, which nobody chooses to use. Too many of the same threads and posts are seen every day. There is nothing really to broaden the face of the Pop-Punk community. Or is there?
This is why I made this thread. Because this is my favorite forum on MX. The people here are pretty fly and I love listening to the music that I've discovered from these forums. It's sad to see that a forum with such potential is dying so fast. So this is my desperate attempt to hopefully reviving the forums. What can we do to make this forum live? What can we do to broaden the community? What original ideas do you have that could bring the community together? This may be a wasted effort but I just want to see the PP forums live a little more, that's all. All your suggestions will be appreciated. :thumb:

I'm betting once summer comes around, this place will liven up tons. This is the normal cycle of Pop-Punk that's happened every year so far. When there's no school, everyone comes here, and then once school starts up again, everyone suddenly has a "life" and comes and posts once in a blue moon save a few.

I have no life, much to pop punk's demise!

I know that's one reason, but we really do need something new when you think about it. It gets boring with the same old band threads and the like. There has to be at least different things we can do to broaden Pop-Punk knowledge to the youngsters and such. :p

Like, a better way to introducing different bands and albums. The recommendations thread is obviously not doing sh1t, and nobody gets anything out of "Yeah this band is cool" or "Yeah this band sucks". :-| I agree completely that everyone is busy with their lives and such, which is the reason why activity here is almost nonexistent, but we need something fun to do here for when it does become active so it won't just be a repetitive cycle.

this really is nothing new this forum has been centered around a select few threads for as long as i can remember the community thread being the biggest favorite
the only active threads in here at any given time are the blink 182 thread the sum 41 thread and the community thread
everything else is pretty much garbage
i attribute it to the fact that the main fanbase of the pop-punk genre are children and young teenagers and what do they really have to offer in terms of discussion

Basically I mean like game wise/community wise, something fun that people would actually post in. I mean come on, I don't really see band threads for blink-182 and Sum 41 lasting forever. Maybe I'm a little obsessed over it all but that's just how I am.

PPOTM went down the john because people bitched about it not being fair because nobody contributes, but that's mainly because there isn't anything really to contribute. :P Just kinda odd to see how R&M gets like 5 million people in there then we are almost as active as the Jazz forum at times :-\
Now that I'm thinking didn't these forums use to have Song Writing competitions?

Ya, I think that's the main reason this forum is so slow. There are so many rock and/or metal bands to talk about, so many alternative and/or indie bands to talk about, and a lot of punk bands to talk about.
Pop punk is a very small genre of music compared to the others. So we run out of bands to discuss a lot sooner than other forums.
It also doesn't help that a lot of the regulars in here listen to very little pop punk, if any.

This.
I personally could name probably 50 bands we could be discussing but even if I made threads most people wouldn't care.

The only bands I listen to that are talked about in here are Blink (AVA and +44 included), some Brand New, and some Alkaline Trio. And Green Day when I'm in the right mood.
I know this is not uncommon amongst the other regulars in here.
In all honesty, it would probably be better for the forum to just re-merge with the punk forum. We've got a Descendants thread falling off the first page, while in the punk forum, it would probably have 100 replies by now. There are plenty of other examples.
Not that I want the forums to merge, though. We've got a good community in here, and that's all good.
Every game thread imaginable has been done, also.

The forums won't remerge regardless of this community's taste (or lack thereof) in music.

yeah exactly
i don't think anyone in this forum would have a problem with it but the punk forum is another story altogether let's not forget why the two forums split in the first place
and seth is right about people's listening habits i only listen to a select few pop-punk bands anymore the rest is progressive/ambient/folk/blues/jazz/metal
not much pop mixed in these days

Haven't been there in a while, but from what I recall, there are a few of those.

VG/M is cool too, but Jake likes to ridicule a lot. He's cool some of the time though.

yes and they died off like every other game because while it was novel at first eventually everyone got tired of writing songs that would never become anything more than an entry on a message board challenge

Something just popped into my head. Maybe there could be threads on bands that are completely irrelevant to the Pop-Punk genre and could expand people's tastes outside the Pop-Punk genre. It could be voted on what band a profile is made on or not. I just thought about that because there have been polls here for non Pop-Punk bands, so if there's a band that isn't even close to the Pop-Punk genre that everyone seems to like, a profile (kinda like a FA) could be done on them. Plus there's bands that I really like that are under the Rock/Metal category but I can't ever enjoy discussing about them in those forums because lot's of the people there are pricks, while here it's a cool laid back community.

This happens every year in every forum.
When summer comes 'round, the forum is usually bumpin'. It's just a natural cycle and it gets more noticable every year.
I'm bored to tears with mx now but I still post and mod, hoping it'll get more interesting eventually.

Yeah, I'm not on as much as I used to be. I'm probably on more than you guys realize though. I just don't post, because there are no good threds to post in. :p
I'm on Spring break now, though, so maybe I'll make a few threads over the next week or so. Worth a try at least.

If you want to do a new EYT I"m down :D
Also: R&M has back and forth done featured genre articles and if people want to do those I think it would be fun.
I'd expect very detailed efforts, no half-assing.

That'd be pretty cool. I was also thinking something like having featured record label articles for record labels such as SideOneDummy, Sudden Death Records, Burning Head Records, etc. They'd give the history on how the record labels started, the staff, the bands that are signed onto them, and I think it'd be fun reads and fun to write about as well.
