View Full Version : Bb Rhythm Changes
i already posted this in guitar, but i thought i'd fish for responses in here as well:
hey guys, just thought i'd post this here
i did a recording this morning over just an aebersold backing track of rhythm changes and thought i'd share it, since the best thing you can do is record yourself and listen and critique yourself
thought i'd share it and see what others here thought about it, even though i haven't posted much lately i'd appreciate it; there are definitely some rough spots

forgive the crappy guitar tone, going direct into garageband is terrible

That was great man! I liked your phrasing alot and i thought your tone was good too, the only thing i thought was that the end could have used a chord. And maybe throw a few chord licks aswell as the phrasing you were using.

yeah,
good call on that.
That is something that really makes jazz guitar speak out, when they start playing 2-3 notes at once (....chords....) during the solos. That does a lot for adding emphasis and dynamics, and color when listening to the solo. I really like that during the climactic parts of jazz guitar solos. I much prefer that type of chordal climactic build to listening to a shredder play some high notes on the 24th fret.
Playing a high note on a guitar(or piano) and a high note on a horn are two completely different ballgames. On a guitar it's no big deal, and on a horn it's a lot of work. Somehow, I think that the "work" factor involved is kind of built into the challenge of playing a great solo. It's somehow tied to expressing yourself. The more dificult parts on each particular instrument whether it be some intense note on a horn or a slew of crazy chord voicings or some insane drum fill, ...these give off that extra flash, that everyone loves, provided it's done tastefully.

It's according to how high you're talking :]
three C's above middle (one above the natural fretboard notes) is really really difficult on guitar
Every instrument has its limits and they're all made to be toyed with

I still have this recording and play along sometimes, as far as jazz guitar goes, good job.
