$300 for both or just the bass? If just the bass, how much for the amp? What styles of music? Etc...

300 for just the bass. and i dont know how much for the amp, im not sure whats cheap and what isnt. how is the ampeg BA115? also we would be playing stuff like metal, but have softer stuff so it needs to be kind of versitile. and i would definatly go used. and ive heard good things and Brice from Rondomusic.net

Check out either Brice or Douglas basses on www.Rondomusic.net I got a Douglas 6-string for $170 a couple weeks ago, and it's better than the $600-700 6-strings I've played at Guitar Center.

"good" and "$300 or less" in the same sentence?

Impossible if we're going by my standard of "good". What's yours? Tell us exactly what you're looking for. Tell us what kind of music you play, and what sort of specs you are looking for.

I don't know about your guitar center, but the way the basses are set up at mine doesn't justify the sound of the bass at all. It's pretty much useless to even go by what I hear in that place.

If you can find a blemished Ibanez roadgear online, go for it.

My dad scored one of those basses for like 200 bucks new(retail somewhere around 350-400, i think) just because of a tiny amount of green paint on the back of the neck. Hell it gives it character for less cost.

Define "best"

Instead of ragging about "good" and "$300" being associated, you could just list a bass or five.

Are you willing for used?

regardless, i <3 my Peaevy millenium bxp 5. $250 TOPS. it's got a really good neck, and the tone is good. You could op for some pup upgrades if you feel like it, but i havent. Although i believe i got one of the older models, the new ones have diferent pups which i havent used... but i hear they arent too great.

i hear the OLP music man 5 string stingray copy is actaully really good for being a copy.

I am trying to help TS narrow it down, so that when I do list those basses they are basses that he would actually consider buying. There really isn't much point in listing a bunch of random stuff he wouldn't be interested in.

Yeah, but some people were being kind of silly about it.
