Once more it is that time where I heckle you for changes/features/etc!

I post this here because I know you view this subforum more than others. :X

Spoiler tags

Self-explanatory, it's extremely difficult for people in Videogames/Movies subforum to discuss anything without ruining it for other people without spoiler tags.

Hyperlinks

Again, self-explanatory, the absence of hyperlinks messes up lots of pages, breaks page tables when people post long links, doesn't allow people to use image thumbnails etc.

E.g.

Links messed up due to lack of link tag - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13315984&postcount=2
And for images - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14430013&postcount=836

Instead of clickable - http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8777/xr3da2005010101103384ro8.th.jpg (http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8777/xr3da2005010101103384ro8.jpg)

Second one being nice and tidy thumbnail that doesn't take half an hour to load for people with slower connections.

Thread size (5,000 post limit)

Limit thread sizes to 5,000 posts to help stop forum slowdown, there are a load of giant threads dotted around and such large threads slow things down on a larger forum like this. It's not a precise number, just as long as there aren't enormous threads with 10K posts since that means a load more processing for the server to do every time the thread is displayed.

New Admin

Alex is becoming DBJ II and hasn't touched the account changes thread for months which defeats the point in him being an admin.

I'd suggest Peer or YDload if they'd accept since they're both active in the pit every day. :X

Avatar size

Limit avatar size to 100x100 pixels but keep the 19.5Kb limit, it wont slow anything down and will allow everyone to have a decent looking avatar. 30 pixels makes a difference!

And finally!

Code tags

Useful for people discussing programming in Videogames & Movies since posting without code tags tends to mess up the formatting.

Image tags in General Discussion

Self-explanatory.

Other Suggestions

Site forum. ^_^

- This would stop people posting problems from their subforum in other subforums and give people a proper place to talk to mods/administration instead of posting it in GD or in here like I'm doing.

take the pit restriction off for new accounts, when mods just ban pit people for the hell of it they make a new sn and spam the rest of the forum because the pit is restricted

Please discuss.

I agree on all points, except maybe the thread post limit.
I like the feel of a nice big community thread on a certain subject, like band threads, or tv show threads.

Spoiler tags is the best idea tbf

Why? He could've just posted this in the Feature Suggestions thread, it's not like it's all that hard to find it.

I agree with the 100 post pit limits. It doesn't stop spam, it simply encourages it.

These are all very valid points that have been brought up!

I agree that having 100X100 avatars would be nice, it is the most common forum size and the size of most online avatars, it would decrease the need of resizing.

Apocalyptic Raids
04-01-2007, 04:30 AM
I'd agree with most of those, although the avatar size doesn't really need to be changed.

Even if none of the other proposed ideas are put into place, having hyperlinks back would be great. They are all good ideas though.

Just a quick question. Why is AG still a moderator of General Discussion? When was the last time he was even in there?

Besides which, it would stop people bugging mods for their own bigger avatars. 100x100 is pretty normal for avatars on other websites, 70x70 I've only seen here.

I agree with the Pit limits and 5k posts require thread to be locked. MX has amazing slowdown sometimes, and that would definitely help out.

Images in the Pit is kind of iffy. The Pit is a spamfest, and if images were turned on, it would be mayhem. Linking to pictures is no big deal.

I'd be down with all those changes, but I'll be even more floored if any of them go through... which brings me to Wintermute, who I figured would actually be around when I campaigned for him 10-11 months ago, but 'DBJ II' is an unfortunate but very accurate description, minus the panda-hugging part.

Why not just allow supers to make account changes?

Wish
04-01-2007, 11:10 AM
Now, I don't know if Jeremy would find this a problem but if he gave super mods (or a selection of mods) the powers to change user names then they will also have the power to change what user groups certain people are in. Unless there is a code modification for it.

And a lot of other things like deleting users and more.

I'd suggest Peer or YDload if they'd accept since they're both active in the pit every day. :X

pft YDload my as‪s he probably hasn't checked the Pit in ages because my short story competition thread sit around the pit for about a week and there wasn't a single f‪ucking local that could make that simple task. Not Aidan, not YDload, Superpeer had to do that.

So I suggest Jelle as well.

I think it would be nice that every time you clicked on a forum it went to the last page you read, rather than the first page. I always have to scroll through a bunch of posts to get to what I said, where I was, etc...

TojesDolan
06-19-2007, 09:59 PM
There's the last page option.

Also, there's the button on the left part of the title (a blue square with an arrow pointing to the right) that leads you to the last reply you got in a thread.
