Hi everyone, I thought I would make an update about myself seeing as I haven't done one in ages.

At the moment I'm in my first year of Uni studying Mechanical Engineering. So far its been pretty good.

Ok so onto music, at the moment I'm in 3 bands - a community orchestra, a metal band with some mates and a country/pop/rock band. Really nothing too much is happening with the first two but a lot is happening with the country band. I guess now is a good as time as any to link to the myspace.

Country-rock definitely is not one of my favourite types of music but playing in the band is great fun. About a month ago we filmed a TV commercial for a mobile phone service (http://www.qpay.com.au) which was great fun. Did our first proper gig last night, it really wasn't quite as good I hoped it to be but we have to start somewhere.

So yeah tomorrow, the country band is heading into the studio to record two singles, which we have already lined up to play on triple J radio (nation wide station over here) and I'm really excited about it.

Which leads me onto 'My' bass pwning your mother...

I was thinking since one of the songs is uber country (root 5th ftw!) I thought I would get a hold of a Pbass with flats and here it is:

An all original 1963 Pbass:

Its in great playing condition.. the neck is perfect and tone is incredible.... the only problem is I have to give it back to the owner on Monday/Tuesday

Also, I bought a new pedal the other day. Behringer Bass Chorus, don't laugh, its quite a nice effect except for the plastic casing but for the amount I use chorus theres no way I would spend 4 times the price of a behringer on a boss or Digitech. So anyway I was looking at my pedals and then looking at my briefcase and then it hit me:

For $14 in velcro and about an hours of work in modifying the briefcase, it works great.

sorry for the long post.

Wow, that's a really really really nice bass.

I'd love it.

Send me it? <3?

Well, if YOU can borrow it then I can, too.

Damn I wish I could keep, but alas no. I wouldn't even like to make an offer to him to buy, I would be living in a box for the next 10 years.

oh, that P bass! it made my heart jump and think "where the F*ck did he get that one?!"

If i had a 63 i would NEVER borrow it to someone else.. no mather who or how much i trusted em.. I had big problems letting the guitarist in my former band borrow my "just passin through" Rockbass... (he ended up buying it,so..)

The Boss/Digitech pedals are 4 times more expensive, but they'll last 40 times longer then that cheap "Meh..."ringer.

So yeah, just got back from doing the recording... I used the Pbass the whole time. Originally it was just going to be used on one track but it sounded better on tape than the Lakland. Unfortunately I've returned the bass to its rightful owner. The manager/producer of the band I play with (he's actually a guitarist with John Paul Young) valued the bass at roughly $30,000 AUD and made me feel a bit bad for borrowing something that nice.

30,000 AUD? i just converted that to USD.... roughly $25,000. that's a bit inflated. even similar ones on ebay don't usually go for even $15,000. was that p-bass used by someone famous?

Remember that Australians get owned by prices. Gear costs like six times what it should down there.

You have to remember that while '63 Pbasses are rare in America they are nigh on impossible to to find over here probably one of the only surving ones in Australia. Its also an 'L' series which apparently increases value. However $30000 seems a little excessive.

The owner(he is the original owner Btw) isn't famous but has played with a lot of old celebs when they toured in Aus in the 60's and 70's and also in the studio.

how sweet would that be to buy a typical bass now and in 40 years have it be worth $15,000?

i'll be getting a pre-wwII acoustic electric (gibson?) guitar... my uncle said he got offered $5,000 on the spot about 10 years ago. It'll go to me when its passed down. pretty excited.. But its no '63 p-bass...
jerk

The acoustic sounds awesome. Somehow I don't basses we buy today will be worth too much as they age unless they were a real limited run.

Ugly, ugly precision.

$30,000 for that piece of junk? The paint is all chipped and it looks like it's been run over by a lawn mower. I bet it sounds like crap too. I wouldn't pay 300 dollars for it. Get an Ibanez instead.
