View Full Version : Man, what a concert!

For my birthday, my wife and best friend got tickets for us to go see a concert. The bands were (in order) Finger Eleven, Chevelle, and Evanescense.

Finger Eleven wasn't too bad, except the guitarist with the long beard and long hair looked like he was having an epileptic fit. He was very distracting.

Chevelle was pretty good. I didn't much care for the bassists tone all that much. At times it was too clanky, and other times it was very muddy and muffled.

Now, for the headliner, Evanescense was just plain awesome. They pretty much sounded just like their recordings. The whole bands sound was balanced perfectly. None of the instruments were lost in the mix. Amy's voice was right on. They were having fun up there and started messing around a bit by playing Highway to Hell by AC/DC. The crowd went wild. It was general admission and we were about 3 rows from the stage, not on the floor, but we could have gone down there if we wanted to.

Only one that I would have wanted to see would have been Evanescense.

i saw Finger Eleven and Evanescence a few years ago, went for a potential girlfriend.:amaze: Evanescence was alright, but Finger Eleven sucked.

their dumbass guitarist tried to do a windmill, but his strap was too low...guitar spun around his body...headstock smashed into the ground and broke off.

NICE.

chevette?
do you mean chevelle?

never heard of chevette... just curious. and that sounds kinda like their bassist.

not my cup of tea concert but i'd go if someone bought me tickets. i hear evanescence is really good live. ive heard some of Amys solo(ish?) stuff... not sure when it was, but its really good.

finger eleven makes awesome albums. love them. i love their bass players basslines especially in the sefl-titled album.

i want to ask a question about evanescence though if you mind.

how was terry's (long dreads) playing? because he was very creative in cold...but from what i have heard of him in this band he sounds like any of the other guitarists in the band.

figures.

finger eleven is still kind of small so they still end up being set up as a smaller band it seems. i would love to see them with a headlining setup and than see how their show is.

Terry's playing fit in well with Evanescense. He played rhythm guitar. The other guitarist played most of the lead stuff when there were leads.

The bass player in Finger Eleven was good. He laid down a good foundation with the drummer. You could hear him just fine. The only thing that drove me nuts about them was that one guitarist as I mentioned above.

About me being 41, as I always say, "Music has no age discrimination".

Personally I don't think I would go to a concert for any of those bands but if you enjoyed, congrats on the gift. Your wife sounds amazing.

Evanescence reminds me of horrible times in my life.

Particularly the time when I was surrounded by overweight girls in fishnets and black mascara trying to bite me and recite their poetry to me. I was held in what seemed like eternal bondage by the chains hanging off their over sized black pants, but what really made me refuse to move was the fear that their Wiccan God would strike me down with his nature powers. Luckily I had a secret weapon. I played the Pledge of Allegiance and all of them immediately unhanded me, put in their ipods, and sat down at a desk with a disgusted look on their face wondering why they were stuck with all of these conformists. This is why, JP, I don't go to Evanescence concerts.

I've seen Chevelle three times (they used to be my favorite band) with their old bassist and his tone wasn't that great either, but the two times it wasn't in an arena you couldn't really tell because it was so boomy. Chevelle's never really had that good of basslines. I would have gone to see that show last Saturday but I was in Atlanta.

Evanescense puts on a good show. I saw them when they were touring with Seether, and that was just awesome. Plus Amy Lee made funny faces at me cause I was psuedo backstage.

u guys do realize that the bass is what really drives most of chevelle songs, and their bassit really realies too much on the B string. An Evening With the Devil and The Clincher both have great basslines, and their other songs like The Red, and Vitamin are have good basslines even if they only follow the guitar. Evanescense has an awsome singer from the video's i've seen. The band does seem to be lacking.

PietroCrespi

Usually Joe just played root notes of lines Pete wrote on guitar. Get Some does have a really nice bassline though. I haven't really listened to the new album that much (sigh... yes I downloaded the leak) to make a comment on Dean's playing.

seether, IMO is such a terrible band, i saw them play at summerfest last year, and they were just horrible, the singer was off key the whole night. and at the end, he said "Were playing this next song for Dime Sack! Or Dime Bag, what ever the fu.ck his name was", it was so embarrasing. they also ended their set on a slow acoustic song, and didnt come back for an encore, particularly because nobody there wanted an encore.

Terry was great in Cold, so ****ing displeasing to hear the **** he's playing now, and the misfortune he's gone thru since he quit Cold.

I was a huge Cold fan back in the day.

They played a great show when I was there, covered Nirvana's "You Know You're Right." I was pretty pumped the whole time, but I also met them after, and he was an awesome, awesome guy.

Me: What's it like going back up on stage like that with a huge *** crowd and people shouting for you?

Shaun Morgan: It's ****ing fun. That's all it is, it's fun. It's like my therapy, I get up there and it's just like my release so I can get all the **** out of my system. Plus, in the end I get free beer and just get to hang out...

I certainly hope he's not posting again. He was an okay guy at first, but quickly turned into a douche. Maybe that was just my perception of him, but he seemed to target me a lot with things like "I've been playing music for longer than you, therefore I know more than you." He would say those things tyipcally after making some outlandish claim that I was able to easily refute. I was glad to see him go.

meh, sometimes people don't always see eye to eye.

Seeing eye to eye, agreeing to disagree, etc. is all well and good when discussing opinions, but most of what I talk about (and all of the arguments that he and I got into that I can remember) were about facts. You don't have to agree on facts... They're facts!

That wasn't the beautifully bound package of money secrets and the things that Wall Street doesn't want me to know about that you talked about in the pamphlet, but I guess that's cool.

Damn, brah, I almost reinstalled last night.

I am running a dual head setup now as well, so I would not have to Alt+Tab.

Goddammit.

I did not jump on the Winters' train. Instead, I went with JC...who is apparently getting a lot of work lately, and Seth Horan likes his JC bass.

I haven't heard from JC in quite a while. It looked like the quality of his instruments was going up rather quickly. I imagine in a few years, if he keeps at it, he'll be turning out some really nice stuff.
