Who's the Boss?

I love fighting games. Ever since the virtua fighter came out, fighting games have always been my favorite multiplayer game. You have 2D mortal kombat and street fighter which have never been in the same league as the 3d fighters in my opinion besides hilarious engrish on sf and gimmicky blood and fatalities in mortal kombat (Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is an exception, good solid 3d fighting game for two players)

you have the tekken series on the playstation consoles
virtua fighter which I'm just going to call sega's
and finally, the dead or alive series.

plus various other virtua fighter clones that came and went.

I own every dead or alive fighting game. Never was a fan of the tekken series apart from the hilariousness of having a character named panda who is a big panda. I have Mortal Kombat 2, 3, Deception and Armageddon. and I'm pulling out hair waiting for Virtua Fighter 5 on the 360.

I've always found the virtua fighter series to be a league above the competition in fighting games. The DOA series is great fun, but virtua fighter has always been perfect to me. The pace, the balance of character, and the new graphics in the 5th installment are even better than doa4 which has absolutely brilliant visuals.

Just curious to know what fighting series you guys prefer.

Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis has always stood out. The way real people were digitized and recreated has made it the best looking Mortal Kombat game for me out of all of them. And, MK, although not being much of a fighting game fan myself, has been my favorite, probably because it got me when I was young.

The original mortal kombat had a huge effect on me aswell, I remember when I first saw a fatality and I was like  that dude just got his heart ripped out! I was pretty excited.

Tekken 3 is my favourite. The huge roster really was gun. I owned with Jin.

I think it's unwritten that DOA4 is the one which requires the most skill though.

I'll agree with DOA4 taking the most skill, but I've heard that VF5 requires more skill because of the balanced fighters and precise timing involved in executing moves.

Yie Ar Kung Fu. Though since no-one here will know what that is, I'll plump for Tekken 2. Tekken 3's speed made fast characters like Forest Law too hard to beat on Expert.
Ultimate Tekken character - Lee. Speed + flair = ftw

Street Fighter II Turbo on the snes is the greatest fighting game ever made. Period.

However I'm partial to Tekken and Mortal Kombat.

Street Fighter is overrated, probably because they released the same game like 10 times.

If it counts, WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw 2007.

Soul Caliber really is better than all

most intuitive counter system that ISN'T broken (compared to DOA series)
extremely in-depth move system
best alternate fighting stances in a fight gaming
revolutionary 8 way run system
combos system is excellent, and doesnt reward you over and over for learning a 10 hit combo (like in tekken)
