View Full Version : My latest bass

Had a little time while I was waiting for my paint booth motor to come in, so I decided to finish this project I started a while ago.

The body is Red Oak and Poplar. The neck is the same as the Scarab, suprisingly enough, it looks like the Scarab neck becaus I made it at the same time as I made the neck for the Scarab, as is the bridge (since I had a couple of these bridges lying around). The pickups are EMG's and the EQ is a Winters 3 band (bass/mid/treble). All the electronics are running at 18 volts. The finish is wax.

Don't worry Tryxx, as soon as the motor comes in, the last few coats of paint will be on your bass and it will be coming your way.:thumb:

That is gorgeous. In the way of scrolls that has won my heart. If there's anything I would change, it would probably be a lighter fretwood board or finish, whatever works. But I like the simplicity of the lighter wood, and probably would have stuck with that as a theme.

EDIT: I'm not too worried. I just want it because I got offered a blues gig, and really need a bass to bring. Also, are those recessed strap locks?

Yep, I can do that to your bass if you want.

That would be pretty awesome, as long as it doesn't cost me anymore. Not trying to be a tightwad, just have lots of things to buy. See?

:amaze: For two reasons this bothers me.

1. Assigning a bass to a geographic region is weird.
2. I thought you meant Scott French, maybe you do?

I'm excited, giddy even. Seems like things are kind of coming together. Now I just need to find a job to afford everything I need.

I mean French as in, someone who lives in/is from France. You'll understand one day...

I really like it and the inlays are sweet. Now all you need is something other than EMGs in there.

Actually, coupled with the EQ I made for it the EMGs sound sweet. The EQ really livens up the EMGs and they don't sound as sterile as they normally do.

Weird, I have never played a bass with EMGs that I have been able to get a nice tone out of. Never happened with any other pickup. Although it might be the EMG preamp, I have never played EMG pickups without an EMG pre. Although I really like EMG guitar pickups.

Regarding that bass, I am not one way or the other. I do not find it ugly nor do I find it attractive.

i like it a lot, a bit too fancy with the top horn for me, but it's not mine :p

one question, wouldn't recessed strap buttons make the strap horribly difficult to attach and make it fly off really easily?

Nope, not at all. I use the straplocks that insert inside the mechanism, so nothing needs to wrap around the outside of the button.

What's the wait on that bass?

NavyBass
03-31-2007, 05:07 PM
What's the wait on that bass?

Seeing as I used a wax finish, it's much, much shorter. I could probably whip one out in about a month. It would be with an Ebony fretboard and 24 frets though, since I've already got a few of those necks lying around.

Tryxx
03-31-2007, 08:55 PM
Excuse that post, I was an idiot. I didn't mean "wait", I meant "weight."
