View Full Version : Winters Jazz Resale Thread--with Soundclips

I made it through my money hardship, and so I'm going to put this back on the block. If it doesn't sell here, I'm in no rush. I'll stick it on the 'bay in a bit.
Alright guys, this is a sweet sweet bass, but I learned too late after buying it that I'm not a fan of the fender shape. Made by local luthier John Winters, this bass is pretty damn sweet.
The body is Alder, the neck is Maple which has a bit of a flame to it, and the fretboard is Rosewood. The pickups are DiMizario Ultra Js, and there's an EMG BTC preamp in it (with the variable mid control). The neck profile's a bit bigger than a Jazz, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily at P bass girth. All the hardware is classic Fender style.
As for the sound, I'd describe it as very, very warm. I was tempted to string some flats on this sucker, but decided recently not to invest in em. Currently strung with brand new Ernie Ball Slinkys, it's got a good tight sound. The slap sound is punchy as bejeesus. Fingerstyle, this thing really cuts through the mix while filling out the sound. It's got a really hot output, and has a great sound. The tapping sound on this sucker is INCREDIBLE.
Building quality is superb. Frets are level, even, and dressed properly. The neck is super solid--I've had it at low action, played a few shows, and had no issues. I play with a medium touch.
It's in incredibly good condition--I've babied it. There are two imperfections: a nick in the back of the bass and a little roughness on the "swoop" of the headstock.

I also recorded a big long soundclip, which can be accessed here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=206492
It was done through my preamp into my FastTrack, with NO EQing done at all. This really brings out the bass' tone.
Now also for trade.

They own. So hard.
I love emailing back and forth with Dave. Micha's in Vietnam right now, otherwise they'd be playing here this month.

Pics. Now.
Don't have any yet, no camera in my house and my webcam does not do it justice.
I'm doing some modelling soon though for a makeup artist student who wants to use me for her portfolio so I might get an arty one with the Martin in there somehow. :p
It is the sweetest acoustic I have ever played, got in just before new year.

£850 or $1,930 Canadian.
Got it on credit though lol It was the last one they had in the shop and they have to import them from the states and it could have been up to six months before they got another so I nabbed it.
It has such a rich warm sound but it is very balanced, the highs are nicely pronounced with a nice midrange and luscious bass.
The action is really low and perfect for tapping on and so on. It made learning Andy Mckee's drifting so much easier.
I'm gonna install a Fishman Blend pickup into it at some point then start doing solo acoustic gigs. I'll do bass for bands but for my own music I'll probably focus on acoustic.
How's the ovation these days?

Damn, Steve. That sounds amazing. I've been enjoying some Andy Mckee lately, myself.
The Ovation is... up on the block. I've discovered that I'm a really bad guitarist, so I'm trying to sell it (have been for months) to put toward something else. I am getting into other higher-tuned string instruments, though. I've got a baritone uke, and I'm looking at picking up something with 3-5 strings that I can write solo tunes for.

^I do. However, you'd be better off going here:

and downloading my recording of their live concert here. Lots of awesome songs on there, and the best stage banter I've ever heard in my life.
As for the bass, I am now interested in trades. Mainly 5ers and 6ers, but also any other interesting basses/amps/gear. Acoustic guitars also welcome.

It is the CC057, comes with padded softcase. The action is good. The place I bought it from, last March, set all of the guitars up in shop and I haven't had to have it adjusted. It's in dead mint condition. I just suck at guitar.

If it comes out of hold do you want to trade for Roland's Kensington I got? I'm just not digging the growly Stingray tone, I'm definitely a jazz guy.
