Intel recently released the updated price list for desktop processors. It’s noted that the next price slash has been advanced by a month, from the end of Q2 to Apr 22. The cut includes Pentium D, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad, allowing for a larger price advantage to against AMD’s upcoming next-generation Star processor. Besides, Pentium E and Celeron 400 will also be releasing ahead of the previous schedule in June, getting back their lost share in full power.

One of the most remarkable cut, Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz/4MB L2 x 2/1066MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 7, is planned to be cut from $851 to $530, a 37.7% off. Meanwhile, Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6600 (2.4 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) is planned to cut from $530 and $316 to $316 and $224 respectively, a 40.3% and a 29.1% off.

Over and above, though Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6300 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) haven’t got too much cut in this plan, says from $224 to $183 (18.3%) and from $183 to $163 (10.9%), Intel would like to give a special gift to this models, a 2MB extra L2 Cache (total 4MB L2 Cache). These 4 MB L2 Cache versions, namely Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6320 (1.83 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB), are going to launch on the same day of price cutting.

In addition, the previously planned Intel Core 2 Duo E6390, which does not support for VT, has been canceled in the future plan.

On the entry-level dual core market, besides Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB), which has been launched on Jan 21, there is another E4400 (2 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB) coming in Q2 2007 set at a price of $133. On the day of E4400’s launch and onward, E4300 will has a new price from $163 to $113, a 30.7% off.

As the marketing replacement of Pentium D, namely Core 2 Duo E4000, has been released, Netburst Pentium D experienced another cut effective from Apr 22, where Pentium D 935(3.2GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium D 925(3GHz/2MB x 2/800MHz FSB) are left only, and their updated prices are cutting from $133 and $113 to $84 and $74 respectively.

The new Pentium E and Celeron 400 are schedule to release in Mid-June. Pentium E2160(1.8GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB) and Pentium E2140(1.6GHz/.1MB L2/800MHz FSB) will be the replacement of Pentium D 935 and Pentium D 925. The prices setting for this two are $84 and $74. Also, the prices setting for Celeron D 440(2GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) and Celeron D 430 (1.8GHz/512KB L2/800MHz FSB) are $59 and $49 respectively. According to the testing result from the market, either one could provide a better performance than Celeron 360 running at 3.6 GHz, especially at gaming.

As an Intel’s expectation, Intel Core products is hopefully exceed 50% of the total shipment during Q2 2007, expecting a crossover to the previous-generation product. Since Pentium 2000 and Celeron 400 family are going to release in Q3 2007, it’s expected that the shipment share would further increased to 80%.

wonder if this will lead to a price war. neither company can really differentiate from the other so that's really the only way to "compete."

makes me wish I could afford a whole new PC, or even had a use for a desktop.

does that mean laptop prices should fall soon as well?

I'm hoping for an AMD cut soon to respond to this.

Yeah hopefully that will bring the price of computers down. I really want an iMac but it is out of my price range at the moment.

Hopefully AMD respond as well because I want to update my Windows PC as well.

yeah it kinda pisses me off that i spent near 200 bucks for my pentium d 930 but since i already have a socket 775 motherboard i'll be getting one of those intel core 2 duo's, hell maybe if i'm feeling frivolous, i'll get the quad core processor :)
