View Full Version : ITT: We Banish Certain Covers From YouTube

naut

this is aimed at guitarists and bassists, and particularly in reference to many videos on YouTube.

ok, so guitar store rule #1 is? DON'T PLAY STAIRWAY.

much the same, we shall discuss rules for songs to be played on YouTube.

i'll go first:

Mario Theme Song.

GET THE **** OUT.

Canon In D.

OH MY MOTHER****ING GOD GET OUT NOW.

if you've done it before, fine; but if anyone does either of those songs from here on out...you're ****ing executed.

those are the most obvious, would anyone care to add one? or two? or fifty?

BenJammin

Classical Thump.

More than likely, you can't play it. And even if you can, no one wants to hear it anyway.

yes yes. it's one of those songs people are already sick of hearing by the guy who can play it. so naturally, seeing a 15 year old half-*** his way through it doesn't exactly seem appealing.

good call with the roundhouse kick. just be sure to have kleets on.

uhmmmm, most RHCP songs appear way to often and anything on guitar that is instantly recognisable and evokes a sigh and/or rolling of eyes

Any "covers" of Classical Thump, Country Music, or Moonlight Sonata - definetely GTFO now.

Any bands who suck (95% of them) - gtfo

Any people who can't sing/scream - gtfo and stop "covering" bands I like.

Yeah, I have no problem with that, it's just videos people post where they think they are the ****, but really they can only play 30 seconds of a hard song, really sloppy, and usually rushed.

Then if anyone insults their playing or says they need to improve they get defense and make up bullshit excuses like "it was my first take", "I was just fooling around", "I don't care enough to learn the whole thing".

I think a very important part of growing as a musician is being honest with yourself. If you can't play something, you can't play it. You can make all the excuses you want, but fact still remains. Get what I'm saying? If you don't admit you need to improve, you never will.

That is either Gilbert or Buckethead, but I am leaning toward Gilbert because Buckethead has longer fingers. If it isn't either of them, mad props because that was GOOD, flawless technique and the Gilbert picking style is right one (I call it the Gilbert picking style because he used it before Buckethead, he taught it to Buckethead).

Also, flea did write the bass line in the RHCP version of Higher Ground, it is way different that the Stevie Wonder version and it also has a lot less groove.

you're right, sorry. I still think it's slightly derogatory, I mean the way I think about it, if there are so many video covers of certain songs, then surely somebody appreciates them.

well yeah by all means, people can, and should do what they want. although, i just don't understand the point in doing a rehashed version of Jerry C's Canon rock...i mean for ****'s sake, there are other classical songs...:p

but hey that's me.
