Dude, half of the people I know with a tattoo have some sort of Celtic tattoo. It's getting so lame it's ridiculous so I'd reconsider it before you have it for the rest of your life.

Agreed. Tattoos are supposed to be original and have personal meaning. What good is it if you have someone else's experiences and what have you on your body?

Ya know I always got supportive answers from this board, but **** it, I just asked for a simple favor, I've already considered every aspect of this, I researched the symbol, I know it's different meanings and it brings to light some things that have happened to my life and the irish heritage I have on my mom's side. So seriously, thank you but no thank you on your opinion, just want a pic of the tat. thanx

If your reasons are based on the symbol why do you need his exact tattoo?
Can't you just use the pictures of the symbol that you already have?

i say if you want that tattoo that is cool.. you get them for yourself not for anyone else so screw everyone elses opinion.

tattoos dont need deep meanings either.

good luck with it

I've always wanted to get a tattoo incorperating the yin-yang and a bass clef. I finally designed it.

Funnily enough i have considered a Flea style tat, not identical but some sort of celtic disk on my chest, very Scottish and all that.
My other plan was two jazz basses with interlocking head stocks one black with a white scratch plate and one white with black, like a yin yang of basses

I think he was joking, but yeah, there are people out there who I've seen steal that idea from Victor. People who most likely aren't Tao, and have no idea what a yin yang actually represents.

doesnt it mean something like a balance in your life, between the positive and negative energy? or something to that effect, i know there is much much more to it, but on the surface?

I actually used the yin and yang (I know, quick typing so I wrote it as "ying"...oops) concept in designs I had long before I'd ever heard of Victor Wooten.

That's the only reason I'm so hesitant about using it anymore in my designs is because I'm afraid people will assume I ripped the idea from him.

doesnt it mean something like a balance in your life, between the positive and negative energy? or something to that effect, i know there is much much more to it, but on the surface?

yep.

I found this for you:

1. Yin and yang do not exclude each other.

Everything has its opposite: although this is never absolute - only relative. No one thing is completely yin or completely yang. Each contains the seed of its opposite. For example, winter can turn into summer; "what goes up, must come down".

2. Yin and yang are interdependent.

One cannot exist without the other. For example, day cannot exist without night. Light cannot exist without darkness. Life cannot exist without death.

3. Yin and yang can be further subdivided into yin and yang.

Any yin or yang aspect can be further subdivided into yin and yang. For example, temperature can be seen as either hot or cold. However, hot can be further divided into warm or scorching; cold into cool or icy. Within each spectrum, there is a smaller spectrum; every beginning is a moment in time, and has a beginning and end, just as every hour has a beginning and end.

4. Yin and yang consume and support each other.

Yin and yang are usually held in balance: as one increases, the other decreases. However, imbalances can occur. There are four possible imbalances: excess yin, excess yang, yin deficiency and yang deficiency. They can again be seen as a pair: by excess of yin there is a yang deficiency and vice versa. The imbalance is also a relative factor: the excess of yang "forces" yin to be more "concentrated".

5. Yin and yang can transform into one another.

At a particular stage, yin can transform into yang and vice versa. For example, night changes into day; warmth cools; life changes to death. However this transformation is relative too. Night and day coexist on Earth at the same time when shown from space.

6. Part of yin is in yang and part of yang is in yin.

The dots in each serve:

1. as a reminder that there are always traces of one in the other. For example, there is always light within the dark (e.g., the stars at night); these qualities are never completely one or the other.
2. as a reminder that absolute extreme side transforms instantly into the opposite, or that the labels yin and yang are conditioned by an observer's point of view. For example, the hardest stone is easiest to break. This can show that absolute discrimination between the two is artificial.
