View Full Version : Battles!!!
Who else has heard of this amazing band?
I just discovered them through a friend the other day and was blown away by the coolness of there bizarre electronic pop-rock.
Can anyone refer me to any other bands that create a similarly wondrous sound?

They're awesome.
Try 65daysofstatic, Mono, and Hella.
Yeah 65daysofstatic are great too - what are Mono and Hella like?

Mono's really trippy Japanese post-rock, Hella is just spazzy. I'd go for Mono first, Hella is kinda hard to get into.

Awesome I love Japanese music - Boris and Melt Banana are two of my favorite bands. Thanks I will definitely check them out.
I am a big fan of "Spazzy" music! :-D ever heard of Hemophiliac? They are an eclectic, avant guard, free-jazz trio comprised of John Zorn, Mike Patton and Ikue Mori.

That Hemophiliac sounds awesome; Zorn is a madman. I still need to check out Melt Banana, for that matter...
Battles are ****ing amaiiiinzg. One of my favorite bands at the moment, the new album is epic but I much prefer EP C/B .

Don't live for a second longer without downloading Melt Banana's Cell-Scape album - its is there best record to date - ****ING BRILLIANT (though all critics say not a single one of their recordings do them justice - they are killer live)
It is hands down one of the best albums I have ever heard.

Battles don't exactly sound like any of those bands they are just in a similar train of thought.
Anyway go post in your own thread then if you don't like it - bumface!

Weird. A Lynch-related avatar, then post rock sensibilities? Yuzz, do you love King Crimson too?

You really think ITCOTCK is a good introductory album for Crimson, Kage? I thought Discipline or Red would've been a lot easier to get into.
Well, I think it's good for the person to see where the band started out, to put Red and Discipline into context. I never recommend ITCOTCK without also recommending a later album along with it.
They're awesome.
Try 65daysofstatic, Mono, and Hella.
In a Bizarre coincidence - my broth just woke up and told me that just yesterday he had discovered this band called Mono - they are awesome! He is giving me all their albums.
The sound a bit like THE GOD OF ALL BANDS...ISIS
[My God...Panopticon is a brilliant album...]

I've never listened to Isis, because I'm told they're just Pelican with vocals but worse....and I don't like Pelican to begin with.

It's fine - I have never really been a fan of "easy listening" :p . I'm right into experimentation and abrasive sounds: the wilder and more caustic the more interesting, intense and real.
I will start getting them now - cheers!
They've got a similar formula but much different styles.

Err WTF???
Isis aren't like Pelican - they are ISIS. Completely unique. They have created there own sound. Unfortunately today so many bands have copied the Isis sound, yet this doesn't stop them from being the originators and the best.
If I was going to compare them to any band it would be Neurosis [but not as heavy and Metal orientated].
No offense but screw your friend and make your own decisions - listen to their third album Panopticon it is pure emotion portrayed through sculpted soundwaves. Genius

ISIS is a million times better. The vocals are amazing. Overall though they are similiar.

I'm guessing whoever said they were 'just Pelican with vocals but worse' hasn't heard any post rock other than those two bands. That's like saying that Slayer is a Metallica ripoff.

Seeing Battles was a fun time.

Hell yeah I just downloaded it - its great.
Kind of musically similar to Magma (one of my favorite bands) quite different vocally tho (for the obvious reasons).
