His music is incredible and the sense of groove in his songs are awesome. He also played the drums on a lot of his records. Here's a clip of him doing a live solo. It gets a lot better around 3:15, but it's great all around.

Stevie would be great if he wrote more funk tunes and less lame ballads, but his funk stuff is definitetly hip.
