ITT: I critique Gwen Stefani et al

This is if you dislike Gwen Stefani / sugababes/girls aloud/their cover of Walk This Way.

If you have iTunes, go on Gwen Stefani's new album, click all reviews, sort by newest , and look for one by a guy called "ollieiscool" (me). I give her a right arse kicking, well worth a look if you want to laugh at her. Same goes for the sugababes vs girls aloud terrible cover of the Aerosmith/RunDMC song.

So yeah, me and my brother wrote some reviews that say how rubbish it is, but actually in a proper reviewing style (well kind of) rather than the chavs that seem to write most of the reviews.

Sugababes vs Girls Aloud – Walk This Way

I am not joking.

If you liked the original song (and let’s face it, a lot of people do) then avoid this like the plague. The singing is insincere and the sort of plastic (i.e. emotionless) attempt at a song that you would expect from prefabricated bands such as these, chosen for marketing potential rather than musical ability or talent (as I go on to explain that this song shows – it is not just hating sugababes and girls aloud per se).

From reading other reviewers’ comments here, many agree with me, but largely those that do not seem to think that its being for charity or being by a band whose members are physically attractive (well, let’s be honest that’s probably the major reason they are famous) makes it a good song. That would clearly be nonsense as such things do not in any way affect the sound of the record.

This song shows neither song writing ability (it’s a cover to the one reviewer who didn’t realise) not musical talent (they managed to make a terrible hash-up of a very good song that is easy to cover – think of the number of amateur bands who manage to make a reasonable go at it).

In short, this song is bad. If you haven’t heard the original but think the song sounds OK, then I recommend you check out the original version by Aerosmith vs Run-DMC, as you may well find it preferable. You could donate money to Comic Relief without buying this song, before you all say that it’s for charity, and the idea that you would only give money to a charity if you got an “exclusive” or “special edition” song in return would only show that you don’t care about the charity (which is fair enough, it’s your own money).
