The video:

Not a bad song, particularly since it's supposed to be the most commercial/accessible on the record. The rest of the album is said to run the gamet, which is cool.

Oh hush...go listen to your lame metalcore crap or whatever it is that you listen to. :p

Josh, why is this album bad? Because it wasn't recorded in a tin can that somebody **** in out in the woods at midnight?
But yeah, I honestly think that this may be the single greatest album the gothic/symphonic metal scene has ever produced. And I've listened through this album about 5 times in a row already, so there is some backing to my statement.
Usually, I tend to overrate things based on first impressions. I'm beyond first impressions on this album. It is truly great.

I didn't say this album, as I haven't heard it. I've heard 99% of their other work and it's terrible IMO. The kind of stuff i'd honestly never want to hear again.

The songs transitory, equally destructive, and de-energized are pretty cool, the rest is alright i guess.

I'd say it's all pretty solid stuff.

I still think it's the best.

Definitetly could be...it's only growing on me, and my first reaction was pretty positive. They actually pulled off a ballad this time...Cry With a Smile rules.
My only real complaint, other than the garnishes of cheesiness, is the vocal effects on Sander's grunts. They sound kind of lame in a Death Cult Armageddon kind of way, if you catch my drift...:(

I'm not terribly bothered by them. What I do like is how the grunts don't have the unholy level of distortion that they did on Reimagine. They're more...natural, shall we say.
The only part where the effects get annoying for me is in Dreamflight, with the "Fear...I am your fear deep inside" part. They sound terribly strained.
Also, did they get a new keyboardist? Or does Joost just look nothing like he did in Star One?

Hehe no, definitetly still Joost. Keep in mind, he's in his low-20's right now, so for Star One he was probably like 17.
And yet he's easily one of the best keyboardists in metal. :( Bastard! Those solos he plays on this album kick ***. I still wish he'd get behind more acoustic pianos...the few clips of him playing on a grand were pretty stellar.

Maybe the fact that he's not wearing a shiny jumpsuit has something to do with it too...
But yes, the man is a beastly keyboardist. And he adds a ton to the band.

Hehe. Sickiness:
Joost actually arranged, scored, and conducted all of the choir parts on the last record, and I believe he did the same for this one. He also created his entire sampleset.

I wouldn't be suprised. He seems to do a lot of work for the group.
