I'm not only into first wave however I tend to enjoy it more then recent post-rock releases. I always recommend those albums because it's hard to deny the awesomeness of them regardless of what style of post-rock you enjoy.

Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson. a Norwegian emocore band from How Is Annie Records. they might just be your typ'o thang.

I don't get why it's called post-rock. In that case, it means after rock.

SoundDevastation
04-05-2007, 03:29 PM
youth pictures are pretty good yeah.

i dont like the term either.. but its got to the point where if you say 'post-rock' people know what you mean so it becomes useful..

EDIT: its meant as 'a progression from' rock.... i think

Neoteric
04-05-2007, 03:33 PM
It still doesn't make sense.

post- means after.

Post-punk means after punk for example.

Rock isn't dead.

SoundDevastation
04-05-2007, 03:34 PM
nah... its not going to change though!

'post-metal' is being used now too..

indietrash
04-05-2007, 03:35 PM
neither is punk, metal, grunge or whatever. dead I mean.
still you hear these silly terms "neo-grunge", "post-punk" and so on. the only one I can even begin to accept is "nü/neo/new-metal" - but I feel that it should be called summat else than "nü-metal".

SoundDevastation
04-05-2007, 03:37 PM

I couldn't hear for a while after Mono, they were so loud. Amaaazing night.

I can't remember the name of the band that supported Mono when i saw 'em, they sounded kind of like Lightning Bolt though. I don't think it was World's End Girlfriend. They were cool, but Mono owned.

guys who else is so completely tired of this ****. I saw Explosions last week and was struck by how boring it all became after the fourth song of the exact same thing. A lot of it has merit, but it's obnoxious to see all these bands spawning who have no substance to their music and think playing two notes over and over with a delay pedal gives them automatic cred as 'serious artists'.

ATM
04-05-2007, 04:49 PM
Yea, you can definantly over-listen to this stuff. I only listen to post rock every once in awhile.

SoundDevastation
04-05-2007, 04:50 PM
once will do.

Yes there is alot of it around, and the majority of it is boring and unoriginal (like every genre) including the new EitS stuff in my opinion...

There are still some amazing bands out there though.

EDIT: and a couple really awesome Rachel's songs.

theres a lot of diversity in post-rock so um good call.

but yeah i agree EitS can be very repetitive.

Does anyone have a list of about 10 or 20 absolute best alternative/post rock tracks?

So far my favourites are: (Sigur Ros) Olsen Olsen, Staralfur, Hoppipolla, Samsleyki, (The Flaming Lips) Do you realise, (Low) Two-step, (Mogwai) Tracy, Friend of the Night (EITS) Your Hand in mine.

If you have taste similar to this, I'd really welcome any suggestions. Basically anything with a really great melody/orchestrals.

You are a fool if you don't download

Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
