Welcome to the casual thread of the Sputnik Community. Some general outlines/rules to make life for all easier:

1. Please keep it to normal civilised discussion. A lot of users are not interesting in following an AIM like conversation here. That's what IM services are for.
2. That does not mean we do not like jokes here. Humor allowed.
3. Don't boost your postcount with smileys/blanket statements/posts without any substance at all.
4. No e-drama. Nobody wants that.
5. Because this is on MX, expect MX rules to be enforced (the anti-Spam rules, no pr0n etc).
6. Try to lure more people here. It's always fun when more people join the party :)
7. Have fun!

We will enforce the rules as much as necessary. If all runs well, moderation will be moderate, if it's running out of dimension and proportion, moderation will be heavier. So much for the official part.

Speaking of Oscar-nominated movies, I saw The Departed last night. Decent movie, but nowhere near as godlike as I was expecting. Little Miss Sunshine should have beaten it for Best Picture.

I'm sure most of you know who Andrew Barr is. For those of you who don't recognize the name, he is probably better known to you as metallicaman8, esteemed Metallica fanboy who rated St. Anger higher than a 2. A few weeks ago, Andrew sent me his school project album, entitled She Feels Like A New Man Tonight and asked me to review it. Seeing the opportunity for maximum lulz, I eagerly accepted his offer. However, something happened that I would have never anticipated...

Andrew Barr made a great album.

While this may surprise some of you, and rightly so, I assure you that this is no joke. Performing everything from guitar to drums to bass to the mother****ing kazoo, Andrew has proven himself to be a minor musical virtuoso. Although he is understandably sloppy in some places, his talent and potential is unmistakable. Combining heavy yet melodic riffs and blistering solos with beautifully poignant clean sections, Andrew shows that although he is still in high school, he can run with the big dogs. Imagine Dragonforce with good songwriting skills. Imagine Opeth if their songs didn't drag. Imagine Elton John, Lord Worm, and that guy from Necrophagist having a sweaty orgy and producing an album. That is what She Feels Like A New Man Tonight is. Fellow MXer Kit Brown performed all the vocals. Rumor has it that due to the extensive writing and recording process, Kit now hates Andrew.

Despite the creative differences Kit and Andrew may or may not have had, everything came together as perfectly as it could for an album recorded entirely in Andrew's basment. I can't really express enough how surprised I was by this album. I mean, I know hyperbole is an overused writing technique in music reviews but when I say I've never heard a better song transition than "Are You Going To Ban Thor?" to "I Am Going To Ban Thor," I mean it entirely. The former is the only song that features Andrew himself on vocals, as he and Kit perform an awesome call-and-response vocal style over Andrew's palm-muted guitar riffs. The latter is a ballad, and it literally just bleeds emotion. It sounds like Kit has some sort of incantation in his voice, like he cried as he sang. "MASSIVE COMBO" features the most extensive and obvious Dragonforce influence on the album. Essentially one long guitar solo, "MASSIVE COMBO" is Andrew doing everything from sweep picking to chordal picking to all-out shredding. All with Nintendo-style effects of course.

As I mentioned before, Andrew is very good at his instruments. Aside from the awesome guitar playing, he also plays drums and bass. While Andrew isn't the most accomplished drummer (his blast beats need work), he gets the job done well enough. I can't really comment on his bass playing, because he mixed it out of every song (except for the distorted bass intro to "Put It In Her Butt"). Ironically, inaudible bass playing is often in the "cons" section of Andrew's reviews. If he decides to further his musical career, I hope that he will rectify this mistake. Lyrically, Andrew is pretty good for his age. Obvious immaturity shows through in songs like "I Got My Dog High And ****ed Her," with lyrics like "I got my dog high and ****ed her," and "Hit Her With A Rake," with lyrics like "Hit that bitch with a rake." The good thing is that Andrew is still quite young, and has plenty of time to develop his lyrical skills.

Overall, Andrew Barr's She Feels Like A New Man Tonight is a great album, and a very surprising one. I now have renewed faith in the music industry because of this album. It's great to see that someone so young can craft something so beautiful. While he's got some kinks he needs to work out, Andrew has massive potential, and I hope to hear more material from him soon.

So, a while back I had to have an operation on my toe because the nail was ingrown. Well, turns out the doctor missed part of the nail he was supposed to move, so it took along time heal and then after like two weeks it started to get all pussy n' **** again.
