i don't have access to either of these sets,so, i would appreciate any kind of input as to their relative merits...they are both double bass sets and approximately equal in price [about $700]...the music will be semi-loud blues/rock....also....which heads would you recommend for a deep solid short tone sound.
thanks.

gonna agree there dude. Gretsch is a underrated, good quality birch kits considering they started it. But still, save up or buy used, thats how I usually operate.

Theres a whole lot of pearl-hate around here, or more specifically export-hate. Others can explain it, since I have one:chug: Drawbacks of being an aussie in most instances.

No.
Whats the ludwig made of?
It doesn't even say on the ludwig website but according to massmusic:
"9 Ply, 8mm thick mixed wood shells."
Go with the export. It's a better kit hands down. That and you know exactly what you're getting.

yea do what white riot said. Get the gretsch. Expots are just plain awful and the accent is mediocre.
only $50 more and you get a solid birch kit which will be perfect for the sound you want
