hey yo. i was just wondering what some of the studio standards are for bass drum micing. I have a Shure PG52 right now, which is decent but i'd like to get a more clear sound out of my bass. I've been lookin at the Beta 52A which i know is good for live stuff, but thats not exactly what i need. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance people:chug:

I use the D112, the Beta 52 is also excellent. They have slightly different soud qualities.

I was originally intent on getting a Beta 52, but now I'm thinking of going AKG, or even Audix.

I use an AKG D112 in the studio. It's quite nice. I can put a recording of it up if you don't mind waiting till tomorrow.

I have both the D112 and the D-6..they are both bad-azz. I'm actually using my 2 D-6 mics on my floor toms=awesome!

You can never go wrong with D112 ...
Used the D6 life once as well. Not a bad mic by any means, but have general preference for the D112. Don't ask why, I just do...

I've got a cheap-*** Takstar mic-set, and I really dig the bassdrum sound I get from it. The rest of the mics are pretty decent too (I actually used a tom-mic to mic a guitar amp :D)

When I start building my studio, I'm definitally going for the Audix D6, mainly because Audix is a local Oregon company :thumb:

yeah dude that'd be great:thumb:

yeah, I'm probly wrong but i've heard that the D112 gets a more punchy, clicky sound, and the Beta 52 is more "wooshy" i'm not entirely sure what that means

I'm pretty sure thats the mic that Chippy praises all the time...

it's got a little pre-eq feel that boosts the attack frequency of the drum, making it a great rock kick mic... not so good for jazz thumpies though.

Oi, I'm having trouble getting my audio file hosted for whatever reason. I'll hopefully have it up soon though.

Edit: Actually, here it is. I hate Macs for leaving all those stupid hidden files all over the place.

Sorry if the levels are a little low, I haven't mixed any of this yet.
