Has anyone ever played this, or owns one? I'm interested in it, and want something more than just soundclips on Zildjian's site.

The guy from korn (I thnk) uses one...
apparently pretty heavy and pingy but not much wash at all. I think, kind of like an uber-rock-ride.

Bout the heaviest, driest ride I've played. Great for rock/heavy music.

I own one. Very pingy and dry, and the bell sounds like a anvil.

So obviously the bell is very cutting right? Do you have any recordings or videos where you use it?

you should look at the paragon rides. theyre really dry too but not as dry as earth rides. theyre still up there in dryness though.

someone on here joked that it was actually an early roman shield dug up from the ground. thats a really accurate description.

Jim is dead now.

Also, Mangini uses/used to use an Earth ride on his left.

^ As do I. Great for that purpose.

it'd be cool if all products looked as good as an earth ride completely unfinished. a new car made of raw, unpainted steel probably wouldn't be as appealing.

i tried one at sam ash once. i remember it sounded extremely dark, way different than a regular ride cymbal.

Paiste used to make an Earth Ride. Part of the process was they burried it for six months in the dirt, hence the name. Very dry, and weighed a ton...I had a 22.

i can see it now: "hey, does anyone remember where we buried those cymbals?"

Just remember, these things are freakin heavy, like 10lbs or so, so most average stands will need counterweights or very good set-up to properly hold them.

If you want a very non versatile ride with cutting ping & bell, they are great
