Has anyone bought, played, recorded, or even heard of this brand? Musicans friend has them cheap as hell and they seem to be cast (from what I read). I need to know fast!!!!!!!!!1:thumb:

I actually aquired one when I bought my fist drum kit, years ago. It's 16", and all it has marked on it is Tosco, 16" and 'made in italy' on the bottom. Quite honestly it sounds appalling.

they don't actually look that bad...

but i am a firm believer, that you get what you pay for.
if you are in that price range, the safe way to go is get some B8s. they are the best cymbals in that range.

Mine is cast as well, perhaps it's just a really old one. But like LedZep said, you're going to get what you pay for here.

And cast means that it will automatically sound good? Thats like saying Paiste cymbals sound terrible because they are all made from sheet metal.

Honestly, just go to a drum store and try out stuff in person, we can't tell you what you will or won't like, and seeing as you have no clue what these will sound like, you probably shouldn't risk it.

Oh, and google helps sometimes: http://www.drummerszone.com/brands/merk.php?merkNR=450 They are probably something like Chamber cymbals.

I had a Tosco splash years ago (I'm talking 25 years ago). I seem to remember it being pretty good. I didn't know they were still around. It ended up cracking, but only after much use.

I used to play on a Tosco 20" Medium ride alot, and it was really really thin. I liked it, it was quite jazzy. They are quite old though, and I think Tosco was made by... Sabian?

My music teacher from middle school has a Sabian Toscoe (note the added 'e') that had prolly about 15 years worth of patina on it. Thick, jazzy as hell, and sounded real nice.

I don't understand.

You say that "cast cymbals can sound like crap too". Easy enough to understand.

But the "Thats like saying Paiste cymbals sound terrible because they are all made from sheet metal" bit confuses me.

You seem to be saying "Paiste's are all sheet metal, yet they still sound good!".

-Yet they're clearly not all sheet metal.

Do i make sense?

No?

...Nevermind then:upset:

It's called a generalization. And is a logical fallacy.
