View Full Version : February 2007 Reviewer of the Month

Hey dudes and ladies,

You know the drill - it's time for the February ROTM contest, Jom style.

Here are the rules, though, as required:

- Dates accepted for consideration: February 01, 2007 - February 28, 2007
- User must have submitted at least three (3) reviews
- No self-nominations, please, but nominate as many users as you desire
- Please write a sentence or brief paragraph as to why you are nominating who you're nominating.
- The top ten vote-getters (if it gets that high) will be in the final round, so if someone you want to nominate is already nominated, just say "[User]'s nom second'd" or something similar and I'll know that it's another vote.

Next: please link me to the reviews you are nominating. If you are seconding a nomination, you don't need to do this unless you are particularly attracted to a review that was not previously nominated.

Lastly, label your links with Artist - Album with the link below it. If you could do that, that'd be appreciated. If you forget, you're a lazy piece of ****, but that's your character flaw, not mine :)

Right on, so this is going to be up for about a day, and the final round will commence March 2nd.

Best of luck to all.

EDIT: February was a pretty spectacular month for the site, so hopefully we'll have a tight race.

I am a jackass who can't read the rules even though I've been here longer than a month to know how this competition works.

Yeah, go soak your head.

Ok, so since every nom so far has been an approved/staff reviewer, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in a new reviewer.

to Jump:

I don't see many non-approved reviewers spitting out three reviews a month, and it's hard to notice when they do since they usually fall to the bottom after two days...

I never doubted the recognition. I'm just saying why they don't get recognized.

A lot of them suck.

The ones that deserve recognition will get it.

The standard is set so high now even with average joe reviewers that trying to remember people is diffcult =/.

not many reviews suck these days chan.

Iluvatar

Compare the reviews of today to that of 6 months ago on average.

At least most people these days know what a reiew actually is and dont just babble on about "this happens now etc etc"

Eliminator
03-01-2007, 06:10 PM
It's even worse now because they think they know what they're talking about.

Example: me.

Example 2: Me

But at least their sounder writers. As much as we wish we could have music-theory literate people writing all of these reviews, there is no way thats going to happen.

The world doesn't need music theory literate people writing reviews. DFelon is enough.

03-01-2007, 06:18 PM
Who wants music theory-literate people? I like reading reviews from the average guy.

pulseczar
03-01-2007, 06:20 PM
yeah i don't see a problem with no music theory knowledge, i'm more annoyed by people who don't know the artist or their discography well, and have nothing solid to base their opinion/rating on. that's partly why my reviewing became less frequent, more research.

JumpTheF**kUp
03-01-2007, 06:21 PM
As long as they're english-literate and their sentences make sense, it's all good.

Channing
03-01-2007, 06:21 PM
It's not about sentences making sense. It's about the information that the sentences contain. Yeah reviews are getting better but we still have people like gunmaster posing as a 10 year old and submitting five word track by tracks.

Iluvatar
03-01-2007, 06:21 PM
I was overstating my case I suppose.

Hearing an average joe going on about something he knows nothing about can be just as introspective as someone whose listened to each other members previous 18 projects and personally knows the keyboardist. Just because someone has no idea what they're talking about in regards to things, doesn't mean they cant get you into something.

Its just usually they're listening to terrible music anyways.

edit: I certainly don't read reviews as often as I used to, but I think you guys are overexagerating a little. I never see a review littered with sentences that make no sense.

Zepdude is an approved reviewer, and I'm fairly sure I was referring to non-titled reviewers.

I just think the quality of the entry level review has improved massively, and thats something to celebrate to an extent rather than say "oh well they still suck."

Dave de Sylvia
03-01-2007, 06:42 PM
The quality of reviews has definitely gone up. Remember, I was here when most of you guys started posting reviews!

Channing
03-01-2007, 06:45 PM
Oh I realize I'm really in no position to complain about bad reviews. The thing is that most of the guys that can't write are so arrogant that they have no intention of improving because they think what they're doing is fine. It's to the point where it's almost a surprise for a new user to take criticism well and actually want to apply the advice they're given.

But yeah this conversation is pointless blah

Iluvatar

I really don't like it when in reviews people try and sound all-music knowing by talking about a scale in certain song or the measure or some sh*t like that. Honestly, that doesn't help me at all.

Liberi Fatali
03-01-2007, 08:40 PM
Damn I should have submitted Robert Miles & Trilok Gurtu - Miles Gurtu before the month ended, then I would have been eligible. I guess I'll just have to submit it this weekend.

FlawedPerfection
03-01-2007, 09:23 PM
I'll be looking forward to that review.

I second Spat.

As far as the theory vs. average joe discussion, I know music theory but I don't want to bombard the reader with theory because most of them won't know it. However, I think it really helps me understand the music better and I can analyze it better.

I'm going to nominate UnderstandingInACarCrash. Despite me sending him the LoveHateHero record than reviewing it before me, he wrote some quality reviews this month and plenty of his work is painfully overlooked.
