This beauty arrived on Thursday night and I have barely put it down since i got it!
I had a gig last night and it got a lot of comments and questions.
really interesting tone too. it's got tons of treble (i've never rolled down the tone on any instrument as much as this one) but it's got a really fat and punchy tone, which is what i love.
enjoy the pics!

Awesome, man. :thumb:
hoppus lolololol
I've forgotten, how is it tuned? Guitar but down an octave?
How's the feel? How does it play?

tuned like guitar, but down an octave, EADGBE.
the action and setup is good, but getting used to the string spacing and scale length feels kinda weird.
haha, and hoppus is cool :thumb:

how big is the difference in scales/size of that and a normal guitar? those strings don't look anywhere near as thick as bass strings.. or are they just light gauge?
if i ever got a guitar, i'd want it to be like that!

I've never heard of tuning a baritone that low, are you sure about that?
Standard tuning would be B E A D F# B

A normal guitar's standard tuning (from lowest string to highest) is EADGBE. Baritone guitars are usually tuned a fifth lower (ADGCEA), a fourth lower (BEADF#B) or an octave lower (EADGBE). Gretsch, Fender, Jerry Jones, and many other companies have produced Baritone guitars since the sixties albeit always in low numbers due to low popularity.
i would assume it bears some truth in real life :p

Yeah, I just did a couple searches. Seems they are sometimes tuned an octave down, but usually either a 4th or a 5th.

i think normally tuning a guitar-like instrument that low would create difficulties in both construction and playability which would explain the lack of them. i'd still get one an octave down than a 4th or a 5th, i'm too stupid to learn a new tuning :p

i play it like a bass, but you can play some chords on it. ive been experimenting with barre chords starting at the 9th fret, mostly only on the higher strings.
the strings are a mix of bass strings and (very) heavy guitar strings. the bottom E string is .95 (light gauge bass) and the top E is .25.
technically speaking, its not a baritone guitar, but I guess fender didn't know what else to call it. its a modern day reissue of the Fender VI (google or wiki it, theres lots of info about it).
i'll try and do some clips tonite, after Family Guy.

Yeah, but Hoppus uses a Bass VI from time to time.

It seems more like a strangely tuned guitar.

historically, they don't fill the role of guitar or bass, they fill a baritone position.
here's a song with guitar/bass/baritone:

Well yeah, I was just thinking that in terms on playability they seem much more like a guitar than a bass.

I've been gassing for one for a while but I can't afford anything but the danelectro.

It's more commonly known as a Bass VI to distinguish from the standard baritone tuning. Fender I believe invented this instrument for guitarists who wanted to add bass tracks to their songs but didnt want to learn a new instrument.
It seems more like a strangely tuned guitar.
It's kind of right in the middle, I think.

recordings have arrived!
http://www.soundclick.com/kylealinder
its the "Jaguar Baritone Test" (obviously :p)
seriously though, i think i have found my "thing", if you know what i mean. This thing is amazing to me, and it just seems like a perfect fit. I haven't touched my G&L or my Fender Jazz since i got this beauty.... this might be my ultimate.
also, i forgot to put it in the recording, but i found a really cool tone that i thought i'd tell you about to tide y'all over until i can record again.
basically, i put the jag into the Lead setting, then roll off all the tone and play fingerstyle (as best i can on this narrow string spacing). holy crap this thing has an amazing dub/reggae tone!

haha, i forgot to mention that in my post.
i knew someone (spiff) would make more hoppus comments, so i gave him some "ammo". normally, i can play it at least 50 times better, but i'm still getting used to the narrow spacing. I'm sure i'll nail it alot better very soon.
for any other blink afficianados (gav? lol) there's another very Bass VI specific riff (if you could call it that) from hoppus in there. I think i really nailed that tone.
also, i'm very much in love with the palm muting tone that i can get with this thing.
