well, here is the situation. right now im playing a spector performer 4 bass, through an ampeg b2re head. both pieces of equipment are good, but not the best. theres room for improvement in tone. im running them through an ampeg pro series 410hlf. which is by far the best bass cab ever made in my opinion. it is an excellent cab.

anyway, im looking to improve my bass tone by adding either an ampeg svpcl preamp or an ibanez atk300 bass to my setup. which one do you think would improve my setup's sound the most?

If you are looking to improve your tone, the best thing to do is go to the local guitar shop and test stuff out.

That being said, I think tone comes mostly electronics (pickups, amps, etc.)

123 thats why i voted for the preamp.

The ATK basses are ugly as sin, so get the preamp. But only if you actually have a problem with your tone.

I'm going to agree with everyone else...for your tone...so my vote goes for the preamp.

Get yourself a step ahead and get rid of that head completely, then get a decent poweramp and the preamp.
