Hey all....I'm visiting from D&P (not sure if that's a good thing or not, lol).

Anyway, my son is looking for a starter bass and this package seems to be a good deal. Anyone have any experience with it or any comparable suggestions? I know the Rogues are crap, and the Ibanez is probably more than he has to spend. I've been reading some of the other threads and hadn't seen this one mentioned. Thanks guys (and girls).

For those who don't want to click the link, its a Dean Playmate Edge package with bass, amp, case, tuner, etc. for $199.

Yamaha starter packs seem to be pretty popular around here. Perhaps look into peavey too.

They are a little more pricy than this Dean.

Yeah I've seen those. I guess I'm more familiar with the Dean brand. I've not heard of Silvertone and was afraid it would be like other "off" brands.

Hmmm, ok, anyone? Surely someone here knows something about it?

Dean's not bad, I've played on a few inexpensive ones at Guitar Center. For the money - looks like a solid deal there, and you won't be out of a lot of cash if your son decides not to stick with it.
