Sorry in advance if the pics are massive. Computers > me.
Anyway, I just got my amp, thus completing my rig for now.
Conklin GTBD-7 -> Sennheiser Freeport -> Boss GT6-B -> Marshall VBA400 + VBC412
Keeping it simple!
Check out the pictures, but ignore the 70's carpet

I have never, ever heard a Marshall bass rig.

Hahaha, oh man... Heavy is an understatement.
Flight cased up, the head is over 100lbs. It's a two man lift.
The cab weighs about the same.
As for hearing a Marshall rig... I don't have any recordings of me with it yet, but I bought it from the bass player in Little Miss Machete - http://www.myspace.com/littlemissmachete. He uses this amp on those recordings. My sound isn't as harsh as his - my Conklin just doesn't sound like a P-Bass. But you'll get an idea.

Nice nice, although I was secretly hoping I wasn't left alone in the Roland club :p.
I've heard great thing about Marshall bass amps, but you can only get them in the UK :(.

How is the wireless rig?

Congrats !
And what's wrong with the 7stringer you have right now?

Heh, I still have my DB500, Jorge :p I'm probably keeping that at home and moving the VBA across town to the practice rooms. I was even thinking of bi-amping for a clean/dirty rig. But I think the VBA would overpower the Roland ^_^
As for the availability of Marshalls, I wouldn't know... I know they're commonplace Stateside, but as for the rest of the world, I couldn't say. I think this is the only big amp they make anyway and the rest are small combos (which I've been less than impressed with, on the whole).
Akira - The wireless is great. It wasn't that expensive really, considering the normal price of these things. I wouldn't have got it if it wasn't UHF and with the two antennae. I don't really leap around like a mental case (you know as well as me the weight of one of those Conklins), but being able to turn 360 without falling over your own lead is priceless for me. Unfortunately, I only have two pairs of trousers/shorts with pockets which accommodate it properly, so all my gig pictures are starting to look quite similar ;)
The only slightly annoying thing is that since I started using my GT6 in my new band, I have to have the receiver down at the front of the stage next to the effects processor. Ideally, a second wireless would be nice for that, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself!
And finally Kili - The Conklin is nice enough, but you know after a while with a bass you start to notice things you like and dislike about them? I am getting to that stage with it, and there's not a huge choice in off-the-shelf 7 strings to choose from. So if I want the specs I'd like, I'd have to go custom with it.
EDIT: How did you double post, 25 minutes apart? o_O

Ah, nice nice. You're in a band, right? Last I heard, you rented a place for practices, but that's all I know, pretty much.

Marshall bass amps are pretty much non-existent in Canada.
And nice buy.

Yeah, I'm in a band Jorge, but not the same one as last time I might have mentioned it. I left that one last Friday. My new one is super awesome. Jazz drummer ftw. The way we do practices is we book into a practice room for x hours at a time, and pay hourly. If you're a regular there (we are), then they'll store your gear for you :) Leaving it there would be good - I don't want to drag it up and down 9 flights of stairs every week. I'd like our own practice room we can use as much as want and just pay monthly - it'd work out cheaper. But there are problems with that. Insurance would cost a lot, and we'd have to buy a PA and mics. Our drummer also likes to practice drums at home. So... yeah. Not the best option for now.
Neato - the Freeport is great. I don't notice any drop in tone quality from it at all. If anything, it adds the tiniest amount of punch to the signal probably. I've never had it crap out on me, and you can tell when the battery needs changing too. The length of the lead for the 9V adapter could be longer though. But I paid £100 for it, so I think it was a good buy really.

Hmm, you might as well have switched too guitar... I mean everything points to you wanting to play guitar... 7 string instrument... marshall amp. :p
Jk
Nice rig by the way. We don't see too many marshall bass amps around here but it looks good.

Nice, looks hella vintage.
I got the chance to play one at GC, reminded me of a GK amp.

Try attaching it to your strap, instead of putting it in a pocket.Either tape, or velcro would work.

I think that is the first time I have ever actually witnessed a Marshall bass amp outside of just hearing and reading about them. O_O

I thought about attaching the transmitter to my strap, but there isn't enough space to really gaffer it on - either the on button or the battery compartment would be obscured either way. And I wouldn't trust velcro.
Museic - Chris' tone is sexy as owt, but I think it's a lot more than just the amp that contributes to that. His pedal collection is pretty extensive. See if you can find one to try it out though :) I also think he uses a head which is a larger version of mine.

You should just duct tape the hell out of it to your strap. That should just about solve any problem that you have.
fatbandit
02-23-2007, 01:47 PM
Like I said, I would.
Gaffer tape is marvellous stuff!
But then I wouldn't be able to change battery or turn it on and off without tape being in the way. I'll experiment anyway :p

Don't these things come with belt clips or anything?
And I just noticed the carpet.

The belt clip sucks. It slips off things :p
