yay or nay?
It's a jazz special body/electronics with a warmoth goncalo alves neck/ebony fingerboard. Ultralite tuners, and an ashtray. I stained the body, distressed it and then coated with a few coats of poly. I intend to put four strings on it, but I don't have aspare G here right now.

Looks pretty cool. I'm not digging the pickguard against that stain, but it's still cool. Get some better pictures!

Dump the pickguard and the bridge cover.
Jimbobntnr
02-21-2007, 03:36 PM
nah, I'm keeping the bridge cover. I don't like the pickguard either, though.

That looks pretty nice bro. I can imagin how good pictures would justify that bass much more.

I think a gloss maple pickguard would be pretty hot on there. Other than that, I approve! :thumb:

Your bass is quite sexay. I say no pickguard, and think it would look better if the ashtray was less lusterous.

The ashtray is pretty gross looking, as is the pickguard.
Otherwise, looks nice.
i say dump the bridge cover but leave the pick guard
man i cant wait to finish mine....eventually....
boo the guarding of the pick. everything else yay.

thanks pipe.
the pickguard is gone and I'll probably take some steel wool to the cover. Thanks everyone.
I'll post nicer pictures of it someday when I get a camera.

MMMMMMM, I actually quite like it with the pickguard on, nevermind though.
Really sexy, though I also think you should lose the bridge cover and pickguard.

Looks nice, I also don't like the bridge cover though.

since you distressed the body, you should leave the pickguard and perhaps even the tuners out in the rain for a couple of days or something...something to take the shine off of 'em and give it a more vintage look
...that's what I'd do anyway...I think it looks pretty hot

I think it looks pretty good, but I agree about losing the pickguard and cover. Or maybe keep the cover but make it tarnished looking

maybe keep the cover but make it tarnished looking
I think that's what I'll do. Maybe I'll coat it with some never dull or hit it with steel wool.

I'm liking the colour of the wood, but yeah, tarnishing the cover sounds like a good idea.

killing two birds with one stone, I recorded this bass strung with DR flats playing the soundclip that I transcribed from the ear training thread. I am at a loss without that compressor that I sold jeronimo, so the harmonics sound faint. The popping doesn't sound too hot on flats, either - but you get to hear the bass.

Wow... I have to say, that's a pretty nifty tone. I like the way the popping sounds. I don't know what practical uses I would have for that, but I'd be damned if it's not interesting.

I'm diggin the looks, probably more with a shiny clear coat, but thats me. I love the sound combo of the J/P pups, best of both worlds. Nicely done...whats the total price on it?

leave the pickguard for sure. I love the contrast.
Jimbobntnr
02-23-2007, 02:51 PM
well, that's hard to quantify and here's why.
I traded a used Hartke 3000 head for the bass, traded the neck from that bass + $20 for this neck & these tuners. I have refinished the bass thrice, once with a laminate top($10). Yeah, you guys remember:
http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n220/dude_050/12-04-06_1309.jpg
then I had to buy a buffer - $20 for the drill attachement, and probably $30 in paint/brushes, $16 for the pickguard that I cut but won't use, $17 for the bridge, $5 for the ashtray, and $45 for the strings. I'll value the head at $200.
so right about $350 including the stuff I didn't use, and the tools that I bought.

p.s.
How low are you willing to go on your stingray?
Jimbobntnr
02-23-2007, 02:57 PM
well, if I have a job next week, not very low at all. If not, we'll talk.

yeah, i kinda figured you had this bass in mind, but i already have two subs, i was looking more along the lines of 2 matching 12's for my summer car im getting.

02-24-2007, 11:45 AM
These aren't bad pickups, I have no idea what they are, but the poles are 1/4 inchers. I wouldn't mind trying something different, though.
Summer car. lol.
Looks delicious. I can't wait to hear it... Go record some audio for us lol :)

I took this to a gig last night. It sounded great but the neck is very heavy, the body is very light, my hand cramped up after trying to hold it level for 4 songs so I re-bagged it.
fail.

Diamondplate pickguard! That should help even out the wait, along with ultralight tuners. :p

that looks awesome man, but imo i would lose the pickguard and ashtray
still congrats on making your own instrument ;)
