Guitar effects on bass?

I have a Digitech Hot Rod guitar pedal lying about, can I use this on my bass or will I just damage my amp?

on the topic of effects pedals, i had a 9V power supply powering A cry baby, into an EBS octaver, into an EBS multidrive, into a boss Odb-3, into a MXR volume booster, until the chord split because i wound the cheap peice of junk up too tightly, i went to billy hydes and bought a new power supply replacement with similar specs to my old one but my EBS pedals and my ODB-3 hum like a mofo when i turn them on, whats up with that?

Old power supply specs that worked fine:

Input:240V a.c. 50 Hz
Output:9V d.c. 500mA REG

new power supply specs that hum pretty loud
Brand:Powermaster
Input: 230-240V AC 50Hz ONLY
Output: 9V DC === 600mA
