View Full Version : New Newsletter World Order

FlawedPerfection

Ok so I'm running the newsletter now. At least for the first time around, I'm going to run it just like Moz did until so I can make sure it works and I can break myself into the process of making this thing. So here's what we need written:

-Soundoffs for major new releases in Feburary
-Artist profiles
-Any sort of opinion on anything site-related or music-related, kind of like a muse.
-Anything else

If you're interested in writing something, just post here what you're going to write so we don't have overlaps and then send your submissions to sputnik.newsletter@gmail.com

I'll write some articles as well. Can't tell you what they'll be about though..

IsItLuck?
02-16-2007, 01:57 PM
What would be involved with the artist profile?
just giving a background of the band?
Talk about their releases?
what's changed since the last album?
what's to come?

I would consider doing that, but I'm not sure what's involved.

Kyle

I will most likely contribute at some stage in the future, but I'm bogged down at the moment so don't want to commit.

good luck running this FP.

I would consider doing that, but I'm not sure what's involved.

It depends. If the band just released an album, then you should probably focus on that album and the new things (or lack thereof) presented on that album. If the band just broke up, you should give a career summary of the band. It is up to your discresion based on what the band/artist has done recently.

that sounds great. Here's what I'll do...I'll write about Explosions in the Sky and their upcoming release (as a test write-up) and if you like it, then I will gladly do it for the newsletter.

FlawedPerfection
02-16-2007, 02:28 PM
sounds good.

Thanks so much for doing this FP. You were a great contributor during the last run and I'm sure you'll be an excellent editor.

Just email me or whatever if you have any questions etc.

Can we get late January soundoffs in? I'd like to write something for Lily Allen and/or Katharine McPhee.

What date are you aiming for submissions? And what date to you anticipate releasing this (March 1st)?

edit: also if anyone is interested in past editions for an idea of how articles worked in the past, just hit me up.

And FP, if you want access to the sputnik.newsletter@gmail account I'll give you the password, but no worries if you want to run it from an account of your own.

FlawedPerfection
02-16-2007, 02:50 PM
Late January is fine for soundoffs. Submissions should probably be in by Feburary 28th, and then I'll organize it during the ROTM competition.

Yeah sending from the newsletter account would look better, so just e-mail me the password and stuff. Can you send the previous mailing list as well?

Can I write a short paragraph or two paraphrasing one of my reviews? I'd like to do one for my Sly and the Family Stone review...

I can write other things, just let me know what you'd like me to do.

FlawedPerfection
02-16-2007, 08:43 PM
I'd rather keep it to new releases.

02-16-2007, 08:46 PM
Ah, okay...can I write something short about the new Explosions in the Sky album? I know pixies did the review, but whatev...and if anything else can be done, let me know.

I haven't heard anything recently...what's good? I'll hit up albumbase...

I HAVE IT! I'll write about the new NIN album, there's a large concept, sorta an internet quest dealing with it...

La Revolucion
02-16-2007, 08:56 PM
Would you prefer the soundoffs about new releases to be about yet-to-be released albums, or ones that have already been released within the month? Or do you even care?

FlawedPerfection
02-16-2007, 08:57 PM
I'd prefer ones that are already released, but if you want to do a sort of "album preview" that's cool too.

For the next issue, you should set up a system like moz did where you have people ask to recieve assignments and you make them up depending on said person.

It would help with people like me who have no clue what they want to write about :(.

It seems pretty good, but you're right at it being a little skimpy. I'm sorry I didn't get to submit anything, I had a busy month outside of writing, but I'll try to help out next time.

Whats with that one really long line?

03-05-2007, 02:25 PM

The Jungler

The Explosions in the sky blurb just stretches out forever. I dunno, it could just be my computer.

FlawedPerfection

Yeah I don't have that. Hopefully it doesn't show up for everyone else.

Jom
03-05-2007, 02:43 PM
I dunno, it looked pretty sharp besides the grey lines that ran parallel down the right-hand column and the bit of empty space towards the right. But come on, it was the first crack at the 'new' edition, and it was very good. I always thought the newsletters, while very well-constructed, had almost too much text, so striving for a happy medium would be cool. Good job to the featured writers, including future release dates, etc.
