View Full Version : what's your favourite ever drumming in a song?

Well I searched for this thread and I couldn't find it. What's your favourite drumming ever, and I mean the whole song not just one groove. Partly because I'm interested and partly because listening to new things really evolves my drumming.

My favourite (at the moment) is Capillarian Crest by Mastadon. There's a youtube link, http://youtube.com/watch?v=0YrRIekrWhw

If you haven't heard it before watch out for the fills in the breakdown about a quarter of the way through.

I have many, there is no definite.

One pretty sick piece throughout an entire song would be the drumming on "Over the Electric Grapevine" by Primus from their album "Tales From The Punchbowl." The drummer being Tim Alexander. Tis very fun to play too...really big hard hitting groove.

Dunno. I'm a sucker for the drumming in most Iced Earth songs and I'm also not a huge fan of anything over complicated so anything that lays down a beat is good for me. Although I don't really rate him that highly I quite enjoy a lot of Lars Ulrich's work

Ow man, this is fekked up hard...

There are a LOT of songs in wich I think the drumming is extra ordinaire..
But if I have to say one...

I'll go for Billy Jean by Michael Jackson.
I love the simplicity in it and it grooves... ow man, the grooving.
From the very first beat you just can't help but move around, tap your feet or just stand up and burst into a funky dance.

Billy Jean is by FAR and beyond a doubt the single most greatest straight 8th note rockbeat I have ever heared in my entire life.

Richard Christy on Death - The Sound of Perseverence

The drum engineering/mix on this album isnt as cool as stuff coming out these days (his hi hats sound like **** to me) but I think his style is so awesome.

Funny thing about this guy is he went on to be a comedian on the Howard Stern show.

One of my other favorites in a different style is Dave Matthews Band - #41. I love the cymbal work he does towards the middle/bridge.

Sean's stuff is great, but I like Gianns style a little more- I love the complexity he throws in on the cymbals. They both have their merrits and I am a fan of Sean anyway.

My bassist is an old friend of Giann's and played in a band with him years ago. I got to A/B the Sean/Gainn drum tracks when the album was still being produced and it seemed like Giann's stuff was a little more extreme.
