Right...seeing as hardcore/emo is heavily based around local/regional scenes why don't we share a few of our local small bands? It would be interesting to compare and we can all find some more cool music while we're at it!

Positives: Life of Agony and Outburst covers.
Negatives: wannabe Sheer Terror vocals, awful stage presence, annoying singer, boring music, ironic tshirt designs, getting added last minute to too many shows I plan on going to.

Also the fact that people actually like this band baffles me.

That cd is waaaaaaaaaay different than how they were live. Both times I saw them they didn't have any of that noise stuff, (which was incidentally drawn from the Mike's noise project Thiam), and were insane. Their first show no one had any idea what the hell they were going to be like, and the singers Andrew and Darren were just in the crowd talking to people but then Derek and David started playing and they freaked out and started screaming in the people they were speaking to's faces. Probaly the best 10 minutes I have ever seen.

More "traditional" hardcore:
Lewd Acts
Last Priest
Lewd Acts
Crime Desire
Until the Fall
Take Offense
Other good stuff:
This Flood Covers The Earth
Spacehorse
Colossus of Roads
Lanterns (more indie, but whatever, it's good)
Pretty much all the bands on Gravity Records (Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Clikitat Ikatowi, that kind of stuff), and ThreeOneG (The Locust, Plot to Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, etc) are from San Diego
And bands that broke up...
Unbroken
Over My Dead Body
Find Him and Kill Him
An Arrow in Flight
Swing Kids
Yeah, we're pretty rad.

Nah, I think it was in Kingston though, which is near Wilkes-Barre.
First time seeing them will be April 1st with Iron Age, Rise And Fall, Justice, Let Down, and Steel Nation. I can't wait for that.

Hahaha, all these "scenes" make me realize why stuff on the radio blowssssss.
I think we should go back to the good old days of music: If you suck at an instrument, you can't play it. Playing an instrument is no longer "cool" so if you're planning on buying a cheap instrument and starting a band to get more friends on MySpace, don't.
Everyone that buys an instrument should be subject to a screening before they purchase the instrument to ensure they're not a total tool.
cobert
03-15-2007, 02:03 PM
Incorrect Gavin.
I agree with the screening for people who are tools part, but not so much in the talent department. I seriously learned to play guitar and bass by messing around and playing by ear. Everyone starts somewhere, son.

I don't know about Spacehorse, but Black Heart Procession is a fairly popular band they may not be able to play a show that small.
Also when did you email?

well it's at the Che, which is SD's main/most known DIY venue, so a lot of the most well known hardcore, punk, post-hardcore, etc, bands play there when they come through San Diego. look it up on wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Cafe or their official site http://checafe.ucsd.edu/ , it gives a good explanation.
it's run as a volunteer collective with no bosses (since it's generally meant for the more radical left crowd) so any collective member can organize a show, and in this case it's me. so whenever there is a show, there's always the one or few collective members who need to contact the bands, get it organized, all that, and it's just me doing everything. except on the day of the show, i need to have a "core" collective member (a collective member who has been there for a long time, the only real difference is that they have copies of the keys) unlock the door so that i can get the ball rolling.
and i emailed them about a week ago. so it hasn't been a LONG time, but perhaps long enough to know i should try looking elsewhere.

I meant not having the ability to play guitar.
I know a bunch of kids who are like "YEAH I PLAY GUITAR!" when, in reality, they don't have the ability to play it and just have an old Squier chillin' out in the corner of their bedroom...never touch it, never really played it.
People like that.

Really strong pop-punk scene around here. It's because the Queers are from my town, so their are tons of bands that have connections to them. The Drummer and guitarist/singer of the Guts (the band that I just posted up there) both played with the Queers on their last tour. Nice guys, gave my band our first show.
Really great stuff, they're touring Europe.

it's like the new scene kid music. it combines crappy nu metalcore with death metal. the vocalist supposedly says words, but all you can hear is this noise that sounds like bree, hence the name
