right, so I'm about to sell my schecter to a friend and I plan on buying a new bass with the money i get from it, and the money i'm gonna get from a few other sources (like the pedalboards im gonna build for some friends), and I'm right now looking at 2 basses: Ibanez SR500, and the ESP/LTD F-405. I'm not sure which one I should get. It doesnt help that i cant test the ESP and I'm wondering if anyone has ever played that model, or a model similar (like the 404, or others like those basses). The Ibanez I love, but I really want to test out the ESP, if I find a place I plan to. Other than that, opinions from anyone are welcome. If it matters my music style is mainly metal, but i play a lot of other styles. Thank you for the help, aprreciate it.

IMO, both would be a bit of a downgrade, but the LTD sounds really good.

I've played the ibanez, and i absolutley loved it. It felt orgasmic in my hands, but then again i haven't played the LDT

i have a soundgear 505 and it's very very nice. it's kinda sterile sounding though. not warm, very airy. nice eq range though, and the pickup balance really makes a difference too. but it's not punchy like the ltd would probably be, you're looking at two radically different tones. i find the sr good for picking and lots of finger action, and it's cool for neck slapping and downstrokes (a la les claypool), but for punchy growly type stuff it wouldn't a good idea. maybe i'm full of it but i'm just saying be careful.
also consider that the sr has a 5 piece wenge-bubinga neck, mahogany body, and bartolinis. i can't tell about the f-405.

I usually don't like ESPs. I find they have shoddy construction.

You'd get more help if your thread title was more specific. Want me to change it for you?

I own the SR506, and I find that I can receive both warm, smooth tones, as well as punchy tones. That pickup balance knob is a dream, though.
