I suggest everyone in here watch this show.

Most in here dont need to see it due to already knowing the threat & ignorance of what these nutjobs are preaching.

I owe many an apology for asking so many times why Christianity is constantly under attack (even though I'm not religious) I never could figure out why grounded morals were so feverishly under assault.

Now I do.

I wish I could get transcripts of this show, some of the comments, regarding evolution, politics & the bully tactics that coincide were shocking at best.

I knew whackos were out there, but this level of blindness was scarey.

But the best part was finding out, a major Pastor of this movement, was busted with a male prostitute :)

http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/friends_of_god/index.html

Key points I remember

(1) Billboard signs that read "Evolution is the Devil"

(2) Pastor at a Sermon
"At any given time, we can crash ALL phone lines at the Capital simply by telling our supporters to call their Senators/Congressmen to voice their Christian opinion & make sure their candidates are properly supported"

(3) A few families homeschooling kids to prevent them from becoming "tainted" by the Godless population that rules the nation

(4) The complete rejection of simple scientific evidence pertaining to evolution, history of the planets, universe etc.

The Bible IS the history of the universe & there is no need to look any further for answers

ughhh

I think you're misrepresenting the Ted Haggard thing.

He also bought crystal meth from the gay prostitute.

There political status in the US reminds me of the Unions in the Uk in the seventies, hopefully they'll find a Margaret Thatcher to take on the evangelical lobby.

Nah, the opposite of that opinion is tolerance.

Ehh ... but the unions, whatever power they had, weren't a danger to the whole political process.

Hey a lot of left wing groups are just as extreme and idiotic. They just don't get the same attention.

I am still wondering why Christianity is under attack.

I'm also wondering why people believe this corrupted version of the true Gospel is really Christianity.

I already understand that every religion has their far-out people, but this is only bad in the way that it will be portrayed as Christianity. What happens when we show the fools who blow themselves up in south asia? People confuse a corrupted version of a peaceful practice for the real thing.

This group of people is to Christianity as 12 year old kids reciting their favorite punk rock bands beliefs is to atheism.

In the UK there was a time when they had more power than the political parties which a lot of people (yourself and I) not included thought was a bad thing. They used to pretty much run the north of England and nothing went on politically without their say so.

Unlikely since it's political suicide in the US to attack Christianity, even the wacky sects like these guys.

wrong, its not THAT bad here? They do hold a lot of power, I'll admit to that

See our last elections, Pelosi's daughter MADE the HBO Doc & she is now the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

And then one of the guys in charge of one of the unions became the Deputy PM

Yeah except you need our Yankee tourism money. :p

But yeah, I'm not talking about the entire south. Just the backwoods parts. Although the same could be said for southern Penn....

lol, if only most WERE tourists and not transplants we'd be happier, besides, tourist money could hardly compete with Tabocco revenue but thats no longer a mainstay either

NC seems like the "hot spot" for newcomers, great climate, oceans, mountains, good jobs & everything in between

I cant even begin to count the number of Michigan, Ohio & NY folks down here in my various manufacturing jobs I've had, they loved it too :( and they are still here for the most part, they said they'd NEVER go back :(

Although the same could be said for southern Penn....

exactly, there are raving lunatics spread all over the country

The poor ole South is picked on wayyyy to much *sniff, *sniff :)
