Ok, so here's my dilemma: I really want to get a new audio interface for my laptop to do some recording. I would really like to get something that'll do multiple tracks at once, preferably up to 4 with different instruments. I've narrowed it down to two different options:

The Mbox2 Pro from Digidesign. It's got two XLR inputs, two balanced 1/4", and two unbalanced 1/4". Uses USB to go to the computer, and comes with Protools LE. $699

The Echo Audiofire8: 2 auto-sensing Universal Inputs (XLR/ 1/4"balanced/ 1/4" unbalanced), six balanced 1/4" inputs. Uses firewire to connect to computer. $599

I've got Adobe Audition 2.0 as recording software, which doesn't seem like it would be compatable with both of these interfaces, which shouldn't be much of a problem for me. Does anyone know about these?/could anyone give some input about what seems like a better deal?

Are you sure the Mbox can record multiple tracks at once? I didn't think that was possible with USB.

no, I have no idea actually. I was trying to get some info on it. So it won't do that?

The Mbox 2 can record two tracks simultaneously. If you have a look at the picture of the Mbox below you will see that it has two "inputs" each having the different types of inputs you discussed in your earlier post.

I have an Mbox2 with Pro Tools LE and its fantastic. The only problem is you can't really record drums without buying more mic preamps. If you want to record more than two tracks simultaneously you will have to invest in something like a digi 002 rack which is a little pricey. The Mbox is a great introduction to digital music recording though, customer support is also great IMO.

Ok, so the Mbox2 will to multiple tracks. Here's the one I was looking at, the pro addition:

I was hoping that the Aux line ins would record an extra stereo track, or possibly two mono tracks? Also, for reference, here's the audio fire8:

This one looks like it's possible to do up to 8 tracks of recording, but I would like to know if those line inputs on the back will actually go to separate tracks or if it mixes it all down. I really want to assume that it doesn't since I don't think Echo would do that. I think the biggest thing is wanting the capability for multiple tracks.
