i have a pair of hats and a ride that i think have nice character, but are old, and of an unknown brand, but the wash on the ride is kind of dirty sounding, and the hat's dont have much definition, i was just wondering if cleaning them would help this at all and what to use to clean them that would just be around the house.
thanks
love, erik

Sometimes cleaning cymbals makes them sound brighter. Use lemons, don't use groove juice, use the "cymbal make" (e.g paiste/sabian/zildjian) cleaner.

Sabian Performance Spray ftw. I used it on my A Customs and it worked really well. I put before and after pics in the other thread about cleaning cymbals.

Lemons only work on brilliant finishes.

I wouldent recommends using Groove Juice. It sometimes takes the brilliant finish off cymbals because its such a strong acid
Never use abrasive things on cymbals
Lemons works good if you want a cheap and decent clean
Paiste cleaner is the best however

To avoid that stain from Groove Juice, use it like you normally would, dry the cymbal really well, then wash it/rinse it with warm soapy water...twice just to be sure. Dry it thoroughly with a towel, make sure absolutely no trace of Groove Juice on the cymbal! Not even on the towel...then you should be fine :thumb:

Dont matter even if you take it all off its still abrasive and is not good for the cymbal. It may look clean but it could still eff up the cymbal
For example my old A Custom splash
Looked clean for a day, woke up and the cymbal was dull and had black marks

I always get confused...."brilliant" finish is the shiny, more reflective type and tradition is....not?
Like my 2oo2 is traditional and my AAXplosions are brilliant?

Here's what I do: I take a paper towel, wet it, rub it with soap, then wipe the cymbal. Then, I wait a good minute to let the soap sit. After, I use the soft side of a sponge to wipe any stains off. Then, I get a different wet paper towel to wipe the cymbal. Finally, I use a terry cloth to wipe it dry. Yeah, my way is pretty long, but it works wonders for me.:thumb:

That's good. But you shouldent ever use a paper towel's. Its a magnet for dust and could scratch your cymbal

Would they really make Groove Juice if it messed up the cymbals that bad?
I've had it leave stains etc on my cymbals but I've found ways round it (consistent ways too, so that I won't have to clean it again until its gets fingerprints n stick marks on it) ....is it still messin my cymbals up that bad!?
I use it on all my cymbals...Paiste 2oo2 + Alphas and Sabian AAXplosions....which ones can I use it on, if any?
EDIT: Can't use paper towels!? What can I use...bath towels, tea towels, shammy cloths???

thanks for the info, but what should I use as an alternative?

Because people would buy a cleaner that requires n elbow greace
What Im trying to say is the product could lead to some bad things. that Stain could lead to the cymbal oxidizing and aging faster then normal
But if you find that it works, then use it. I didn't have good experience with it, It rewind my splash

Well what I do is use Groove Juice to clean the fingerprints, stick marks and general grime off. I then wash it and dry it thoroughly with soap and water...twice! Then I clean it AGAIN with some dunlop cleaner...I found that way I'm not left with any stains...still a good idea to use it or should I just buy Paiste cleaner?
Btw, can I use Paiste cleaner on Sabians?

Probably,I tryed it on my zildjians and it was great
Takes a bit of elbow greace to get good results though
