I totally buy Manring's Hyperbass, with the adjustable bridge, just because it has the bridge.

what do you mean?
He learned on an upright with a tilted bridge or something like that (too tilted, and the strings are really, really low.) and so when he bought new ones he resized the bridges to his playing style. It would take a little work but if you got one of his personalized uprights, triangle backed neck and all, it would be a bit of a learning curve, with intonation and stuff like that. So they're not near impossible to play, but you would be really off for a while.
