how did your band do it?

we already have a few songs written, so should we teach "applicants" a verse or something and see what they sound like that way?

or

send them a track with no lyrics/vocals and have them write lyrics and sing over it and see if we like it?

or

learn a cover and play it with them?

or

what???

we needs help!

thanks :chug:

you: :smash:
me:

I'm gonna say right now, as a vocalist, the worst is when your bandmates expect you to come up with vocals on the spot without any recordings. It's sloppy and it's hard to get a clean idea of what they're expecting out of you, especially because they won't want to play the song repeatedly just for you to hear it.

So yeah, make a rough cut of a song and show them it, have them figure something out over it, if it works out, sweet deal.

For auditions, the easiest thing is to have them prepare a cover song. Something well-known that fits reasonably well with the band already (preferably a song already in your set list).

That way they're learning something that (hopefully) they're already familiar with and they can give you the best possible audition, rather than learning a new song from scratch that they may not have ever heard.

oh btw, we have a gig on/around april 7th, and we need a whole new set, so yeah...

thanks for the cover idea, moseph!

and yes, they will be only singing, unless they elect to do something else as well, but only if it fits with our musical things.

in all honesty you sound really good. If you really dont like singing then i would try to enlist a freind that may have a good voice. either that or post flyers around your school asking for singers of (then list two or three styles you play) along with maybe some bands that you sound like.

o and great job of covering op ivy. to bad the recording sound like crap.
