Hey guys,

My dad bought a new monitor, so I got the old one. I'm hooking it up to my laptop so I can have the whole dual monitor thing going. It'd just help a lot while I'm doing papers and such so I don't have to keep switching windows. My question is, how do I set it up so I can have two different wallpapers on each monitor? Whenever I change one wallpaper it switches the other one, too.

mmm while it does sound useful (perhaps when i have to type things based of certain documents) i would probably never use it.

someone was bragging to me about watching movies on one of his computer monitors while i was chatting to him in a chat room i thought he was a fag

And Meatplow, it really would be something extremely useful for me, cause as of late, with my schoolwork, I've found myself switching between 3 or 4 different sources, an actual workspace, and lectures at the same time, and it just got to be annoying, so I figured I'd give this a shot.

i use dual monitors it's really useful and it annoys me using one monitor now. like you can keep stuff you just need to glance at on one and main program on the other. and when playing games fullscreen you can still keep an eye on everything.

I have been seriously contemplating going duel screen at uni, for the following reason.

I have windows media centre, so if i hook my Freeview box to my PC, i can watch TV, and i can watch TV normally on one screen anyway. So i would use one screen to do internet/msn/essays if i need to, which i probably wont but w/e. I would also watch DVDs, play my 360, and all of this sorta stuff, threw my Second monitor.

Also, doing 3d design, i might need to run some CAD programs sometimes, having 2 screen to do it over will be handy i think.

Im still contemplating though, its £200 or so i will have to fork out, when if i just keep my TV i dont need to :-/

Yeah, I have a 19" widescreen and a regular 19" regular. When I vnc in from my laptop it displays funny.

But yeah, I watch TV on the widescreen (secondary) and work on the regular (it's closer because it's a crt and sticks out farther).

If you go dual screen, make sure the monitors are the same size/type. It's not a MAJOR thing, it just helps when you get the look of it and what not. If you have one monitor bigger then the other, it's gonna like mega weird goin back and fourth.

I might get a cheap monitor for Supreme Commander. Plus it would be really helpful for stuff that's already been mentioned.

i have 19 and 17 crts and i'd say its actually better. but i dont run anything spanning both. they stay pretty seperate. as long as the resolutions are the same it's fine.

Thanks for the help so far, but I've got just one or two more questions. First off, how do I get the toolbar to extend to my second monitor? It's not that big of a deal, just curious. Second, there's a little white box on the second monitor, and I can't get it to go away. It's on the far right edge, right near the top. I'll get a pic up as soon as I can. Thanks for any help.

There's the pic guys, the little box I was talking about is to the upper left of the first I. It's pretty obvious.

I often have TV on one monitor and something else - game, web browser - on the other.

My monitors:
NEC MultiSync LCD20WGX2 (1680x1050)
Acer 1716 (1280x1024)

I don't know why you'd want to have the toolbar on both, but:

Eh, for $40 it's not that big of a deal. Anybody got any ideas on that little annoying white box?

idk try hooking up that monitor alone or to another pc and see if its the monitor or the pc/card.

Well the first time I hooked 'em up, it wasn't there. But then I restarted the computer and when it booted up, I had two identical screens, so I had to set it up as an extended desktop again. I noticed that little box there some time afterwards.
