Okay, finish laughing...

I was wondering what the best material would be to have one made out of. I've heard graphite is great, but I've seen others. What I'm looking for is something that will last a long time, rather than wearing down as quick as my current one has.

I actually found that a few minutes after I posted this, but I was just wondering what material would be best, considering that warmoth doesn't answer this question.

If your making it yourself go with bone or wood , that would be easy to file as for prefiled. Graphite and brass seem to be quite popular. I have graphite(i think on of my basses it seems very sturdy)

I like brass best myself. But if you make a nut out of one of your own finger bones that would be pretty cool :)

So most things I've seen have said that bone or metal is good. I'm planning on making my nut out of ebony like an upright bass. Is this a bad idea? Something about an electric bass that'll wear it down quicker than an upright?

Ebony is perfectly fine, I use it often...
