hey, i have a quick question on multitrack recorders/recording in general.

I only want to get a multitracker, no computer software.
so which recorder is best? the tascam dp-01, or the fostex mr-8?

then, i was wondering, could you record a good drum sound with jsut one condenser mic? or would i need multiple ones?

and lastly, should i fork out the extra money on the dp-01 (if its good) to get the package that includes another vocal mic, monitors, and headphones?

thanks!

you can record a good drum sound with one good condensor mic, but it will be in mono and it won't sound punchy and contemporary. But it will sound more natural (like an unmiced acoustic set in a live setting).

Most recorders should let you record 2 tracks at the same time. More expensive ones will let you record more tracks simultaneously.

Boss has recently released a really good portable recorder, I believe it has either 8 or 12 inputs, and it is around $1000 I believe. Definitely a good investment.
