before I bought a "real" upright pickup, I used a $3 piezo from radio shack sandwiched between two wood wedges in the same position as on that cello bridge. After I bought the pickup that I use now, I have to admit that there is not much difference. Not $150 worth, anyway. Since the piezos are very high impedance you should use the shortest cable possible from the piezo to the pre-amp or it's going to get noisy.

I can't pick it out of a line-up, but it looked like this:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062399&cp=&pg=1&searchSort=TRUE&sr=1&y=10&origkw=piezo&kw=piezo&x=20&s=A-StorePrice-RSK&parentPage=search
was about an inch in diameter. I cracked the plastic case off of it and just used the element wired to a 1/4" female jack
