Slayer maybe, considering they invented Thrash.

No. They made the form of Gothenburg Death Metal (a form of melodic death metal) metal popular. Many of the metalcore bands took their sound and added more "chuggas" and breakdowns to the music.

They're decent, I guess. I just don't think they're anywhere close to being top anything.

Stormrider
01-19-2007, 04:32 PM
Hmm. Burnt Offerings is up there with my favorites, top 3 actually. But if you want to just check out ATLEAST one more album, get Night of the Stormrider, which is my favorite, or Horror Show. Which excells in the vocal department and just owns overall.

Please check them out. :p

I just might hurt you if you son't like the title track on Burnt Offerings.

I think you should give Drudkh a listen - they're quite atmospheric and I think you might like them.

And Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is an essential, but I'm guessing you've already heard it (and didn't like it).

On M-A, it's got Metallica listed as having formed in 1981, and Overkill as having started in 1980. If this is true, then that would make Overkill the first thrash metal band as far as I can tell. The only problem is that if there was another thrash metal band that formed before Overkill, but never got really popular, then we'll never really know.

Yeah, I want to, actually. I've heard Songs Of Grief and Solitude, which obviously isn't their black metal side, but I well liked it enough and with all the love they get around here I want to see what they're all about.

Do they use a drum machine?

It sounds like a drum machine in Autumn Aurora. Either way the drums sound shitty.

Apocalyptic Raids

Drum machines are annoying, especially when they're overused like they are with so many one-man Black Metal projects. At least Varg went to the effort of playing drums on Burzum albums.

The drums on all Drudkh albums are pretty repetative and basic, but they get the job done and fit the repetative guitar style.

Kage
01-20-2007, 11:19 PM
Their drummer is really really sucky. He's got absolutely no feeling in his playing. I'm still not even convinced this isn't a drum machine. He's one of the worst drummers I've ever heard.
