EDIT:For those who didn't know...Farley was originally recorded as the voice of Shrek but he died. They felt it wasn't right to use a dead actors voice and the cast Myers in the role.

Yeah, they started animating in 2000/01. Farley died in 97. I was reading about it online.

Production started in 1996. He died in '97.

This is news to me, too, but IMDB has it up.
