I never thought I would hit 10k, cause forums never appealed to me that much, but all you sexies here in R&M kept me here. ;)

My favorite genre:
Funeral Doom.

I just love the slow brooding atmosphere.
I know atmosphere is such a general word, but if one genre has it, it's funeral doom.
It's not that I'm a depressed guy or anything, on the opposite.
This depressing music helps me to appreciate the good things in life.
Favorite bands: Mournful Congregation, Ahab, Skepticism, Esoteric, Fallen.

Power Metal: A great mix between speed, melody and balls-to-the-wall metal. Plus I can swing my sword and feel only slightly self-conscious. And no, that wasn't a euphemism.

fav genre: death metal
why? first you need to know that i listen most new death metal bands and not that much old school. i like growling, i like how death metal is technical on guitar, have nice leads and melodies taken from other genre (like Nile) and of course its the best to headbang to.
tbh. i don't know a real reason... i just like it, beside of grind, doom, power, etc.

My favorite genre is probably Prog. My favorite bands include Opeth, Dream Theater, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Orphaned Land and Rush to name a few. I just love all the aspects of the genre. It was pretty hard to pick just one genre though.

favorite genre: Metalcore/ progressive hardcore
reasons: ive always been a metal kinda person, i love clever guitar harmonies and thrash guitar riffs, but more recently ive been listening to other music that is more progressive and has more new ideas than classic metal.

favorite bands: As i lay dying, HORSE the band, Tool, Alexisonfire, System of a down, Metallica, and Apollo's fall

I guess my favorite two genres would be progressive rock and alternative rock. Progressive rock I find is very interesting and creative and tends to have a lot of skilled musicians which I find good to listen to. When I'm not in the mood for long songs or anything else associated with prog rock, then I switch (mostly) to alternative rock where the melodies are very catchy, fun to listen to and often giving off an entirely different feel. Different music for different moods I guess. I also listen to other genres but those two are probably the dominant two.

Favorite genre : Folk/viking/black metal. Folk/viking just invoke a cool feeling of the past and nature, while viking metal has acknowledgement of Vikings ferocity and the general life style of the Norsemen.

And black metal just invokes weird thoughts and feelings that no other music can induce.

Favorite bands : Vintersorg/Falkenbach/Amon Amarth/Agalloch/Windir/Darkthule/Xasthur/Epheles/Vlad Tepes

My overall favorite is Funeral Doom too!

Funeral Doom: Yes, I love the atmosphere. How within the genre you can have the crushing weight of songs like Morphia, and next, the beautiful sadness of songs like Angels Of Distress.

Favorite bands: Esoteric, Wraith Of The Ropes, and Thergothon is really growing on me as well.
