Whenever I turn up my P.A.s volume, I get really bad feedback, which is a problem because we cant hear our singer. I bought one of those behringer feedback destroyers and it wouldnt work for me, even after goin through the manual many times. I returned it. Would the best way to solve the feedback be a graphic equalizer? Which one should i get if so? any help welcome.
btw, we arent running drums or anything through the pa, just mics and sometimes keyboard.

face the mains away from the singer, then get a small monitoring system so they can hear themselves.

Make sure the gain isn't turned up on the mixer and make sure the speakers aren't facing the microphone, etc.

What does your system consist of?

uh, well what we have is a mixer (Behringer Eurorack UBB1002), into a really old kustom 200 pa head, into an old kustom vertical 412 cabinet which we call the piece of ****, because it looks like ****. pretty simple setup i guess.

An EQ would allow you to get more volume out of the PA before it started to feedback. As far as what type of EQ to get, the more granularity, the better. Unfortunately, more granularity = more $$ out of your pocket. I don't know brands.
The real art is figuring out what frequencies your practice space, bar, etc. is boosting relative to the other frequencies and so which ones to take out of the mix. An EQ by itself won't tell you that. There is something called a pink noise generator you can buy which helps you figure this out. It basically generates what sounds to you like static but it has a mic and a display to show you what frequency ranges are relatively louder, so you can take those out with your EQ.
