I know some of you are still waiting for the uploads of Joy Division. I apologize for the delays. I've been in kind of a funk lately, partially from the holidays exhausting me. I'm starting to snap out of it though and am trying to get things back on track.

You'll notice the poll above. The reason I'm re-running it is because I recently started listening to Paradise Lost again, and I've kind of lost my taste for them. The stuff off the Gothic album was really good, but their recent stuff doesn't capture me as it did when I first heard it. I don't think it would be keeping with my usual quality to do a write-up on them under the circumstances.

That in mind, I've changed it to Fields of the Nephilim. The band has a unique persona drawing heavily on Goth themes as well as dark fantasy, Wild West legends and myths, and science fiction. The mastermind behind the whole project is Carl McCoy, songwriter and vocalist.

I'll keep this open for a day, send the Joy Division uploads out tonight, and get write-up posted Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Wait, I'm confused. Did you already decide what artist you're spotlighting, or did you just replace Paradise Lost with Fields of Necromancers or whatever its name is?

'Cause I voted Anthrax either way.

I voted Fields of Nephilm because they sound very intriguing.

Paradise Lost technically won the last poll, but since lately I've lost my taste for them, it just wouldn't feel right putting up a write-up of them. The stuff from their Gothic album was good, but the rest isn't quite to the standard I usually try to give you guys. I don't know, maybe I'm just talking out of my ***...

So I'm re-opening the poll and replacing Paradise Lost with Fields of the Nephilim. Whoever wins this poll gets the write-up this weekend.

are "believe in nothing" and "symbols of life" any good? i mean are those albums good old albums or the new style?

They're both newer. Both early 2000's if I'm not mistaken. They're okay, but I still feel I could do a much better write-up with Fields of the Nephilim, who have a more original and intriguing sound.

To be honest with you Alex, I'd like to see more variety in the spotlights. You made your way to this point on your last write up in a sort of subconcious way saying that you couldn't think of any more witty introductions dealing with goth, yet you substituted a goth act for (what I am assuming is)yet another goth act. Now it's obvious that this is one of your favorite genres, maybe even your main thing, but i honestly don't remember your early spotlights being so goth-heavy.

I realize there is still a lot of variety, but I just wanted to get that out there and I still commend your undying devotion to this.

That was more of a joke than anything, but I am trying. Bauhaus was among the first wave and has very clear post-punk roots. Fields of the Nephilim has more metal influences. Rasputina has a strong alternative/folk rock vibe.

The polls you see tend to be composed of whatever I'm digging lately. That's why most of my spotlights have been on power metal bands. After such a heavy immersion and doing write-ups on all of my favorites, I'm exploring some different genres, and Goth rock has greatly appealed to me.

To try and keep up some variety, I did offer up Rites of Spring to intro people to first-wave emo. I also put in Rainbow for classic rock. Anthrax and Armored Saint are for straight up metal. Collective Soul is a great modern rock group. And Jimmy Cliff is my attempt to get more people into reggae.

So, yes there is a bit of a heavy Goth slant to this round, but no more so than you saw me doing power metal before.
