Now that I've got my new set of D-dub's I have decided to upgrade those cymbals ( currently playing paiste 502's). No matter what anyone says I am incredibly partial to Paiste cymbals 95% (the other 5% goes to sabian) anyway I'm leaning towards the 2002 line but does anyone have any support for the giant beats? or other Paiste cymbals in general? As you can tell I'm going for that classic sound..my drum set up currently is a 16 x 24" bass 16x16 floor and a 8 by 12'' rack tom. So if I could hear some feedback they be great...thanks a bunch

Why not mix 'em up. I like cymbals from both lines. Use your ears.

yeah i was thinking giant beats in the beginning but I figured 2002's to be a better option as they were far more popular...at least throughout the 70's (until they were discontiued) and Im thinking that the 2002's will be more versatile for both a classic and modern sound...im still unsure though....does anyone actully use either of these who could tell me from experience?

I had a 17" 2002 crash and it had a zepplin vibe to it. I tried the Giant Beat hat's at the local drum shop and they sounded great. Either way you can't go wrong.

Try both series out and pick for yourself man, its what I have done, now I just have to extract the finances.
I've finally decided on buying a base pack of giant beats (15,18,24) and some singles of signature and 2002 series.
Then whatever else appeals to me when I have the funds.

They both will give you that classic sound.
The 2002 hasn't changed much (if at all) from its original incarnation in 1971. The Giant Beats, while reintroduced after many years off the market, I'm not so sure about.

i hope i dont get serious flammage but im one of those few drummers whose completly anal about matching cymbals....im sorry to all of you who have better music taste than I....but I enjoy the look of matching cymbals and i also figure that by using the same line my cymbals will work really good together sound wise. i know that many of you will tell me that your cymbal combos may be the best but i just cant seem to drop this preference....a lot of this comes from the fact that when igo into a guitar center i have a really hard time knowing just what i want in a cymbal. my dream set up is 15in hats with 18in alternates (i know their huge but i love the sound) 17 18 19in crashs and a 22 or 24 inch ride i cant seem to decide which i ll like better i keep thinking that if i go with the 24 inch it will be too big and ill feel like a bonham poser but then i m not sure about the 22 inch either....maybe i should try to find a 23in laugh out loud....

When you learn to appreciate the sounds of drums and cymbals, then you will know that matching will never matter.
One year ago, I was such an ignorant fool. I spent over $100 on cymbals just for the looks. I love one, but I hate the other. Now I have a large amounts of cymbals I wouldnt mind sending to Johan.

anyway... it all boils down to what sounds best. either line of cymbals is high quality... they just sound different. You can't ask a forum which to get because everyone will have their own opinions.

thats what im looking for...I want imput on what peoples opinions are to help me make my decision.

See i appreciate the sound of a good sounding cymbal...unfortuntaely for me i have only played maybe 20-30 different cymbals on other peoples kits. Some I like and some i hate(i can tell the difference between absolute $hit and good stuff) but the problem comes when i have to buy them myself. So far i have played on 16 17 18inch crashes and a 20in ride from the 2002 line I love the sound but I guess im just unsure if theyll work for me. Sorry for being so wishy washy but I just wanted to see what people thought of each line to maybe push me over the edge...as of now im probaly gonna go with the 2002s but im still considering the giant beats. The problem with the giant beats is that i have yet to play one as they seem unpopular or too popular to stay in stock, as guitar center has not had some the few time I was there. unfortunate i guess. but overall the reason for this thread, honestly, is to see if people who have played on giant beats feel they are well worth the cost and if theyre sound is of better quality than the 2002's. Maybe someone could tell me an exact difference in the sound of each...? that would probaly help the most.
